Watch your TANK TEMP tomorrow!

Looks like tomorrow may be the first 80 degree day of the season. People who have set up tanks over the winter should be very careful that their tank doesn't overheat during the day tomorrow. Each year there are a couple people who lose livestock to temp spikes on the first few hot days of the summer season.

Eh who needs an 80 degree day to spike a tank temp...Yesterday was enough...I hit 89 by the time I got home. Slowly backed it off to 84 this morning. No lights today on the tank or refugium, Seio 1500 has been unplugged(still have a return with a penductor, and two Seio 620's for water circulation). We'll see what happens. No losses so far coral or fishwise. Its the product of living on the third floor. Also doesn't help that the landlord has been told for 6 months to fix two windows out of 4-5 so I can get the AC's in and they haven't done a thing. The pregnant wife is going to complain today... I'm not so worried about the tank. I just don't need the wife to constantly remind me how hot the apartment really is....

Seems to be enough. The sps grow, and have some color. I dont go to sleep until about midnight anyways, so its not really an issue. I'd just rather not have it on all day when I'm not home.


The AC may need to go in this week though.

Merk, have you tried a pretty good volume fan over the top of the tank? Will obviously cause a lot of evaporation but might help your tank temp situation some.

I have a nice size fan blowing on the sump...Like I said being on the third floor is good in the winter, but bad in the summer. I should be ok with some of the stuff turn off till we can start cooling the apartment down...

I used to experience a lot of heating problems when we lived in the downtown brick condo. AC was a must on days like this.
But it's much different here in the house with the tank in the basement. Since the tank is in a small room with the oil burner, it turns out that this time of year my tank is at it's coldest. Furnace never kicks on, but the basement is still cool. My fish must think it's winter.

So, if I use a clover glass(thin plate glass) that will push my temp up. But if I remove them, how much salt build up is to be expected on my bulbs and reflector?

New high for me. 80.1 Set for 77. No big deal but will have to follow the weather a little more closely from now on. Might be time to pull back the cover on the cellar sump?
