watching calupera go sexual

I have had it happen, but I have never watched it happen. It looks a lot like a bristle worm spawn. Trails of green smoke disolving as it is release. Kind of neet.

I guess it is time for a water change. Good thing it is the 8g not the 625

here is the warning sign. Some of the "branches" will get these little barbs growing out of them. It happens fast, so if you see these you may want to pull the whole plant or at least start making water.

OK, so here's a really dumb question... what's wrong with it reproducing in the tank? I have a small amount of calupera in my fuge (maybe 5-10 ferny leaves), and actually would like more.

Is is that it goes overboard in it's throes of passion and overwhelms the other tank inhabitants? clogs intakes, or a nutrient spike or something?

Just curious why we wouldn't want more macroalgae if it's beneficial.

Eventually it will shade your coral, and keeping it trimmed is a unessisary pain.

When it goes sexual it doesn't reproduce in our tanks, but it releases all of the stuff it has used to grow( phosphate, nitrate etc. ) and can crash your tank.

Ah!!!!! Sort of "all of the above". Makes a lot of sense why it's dreaded now.
