water flow/ wave maker question

I have a 90gal. Reef with nearly all softies and know I need more flow. Looking at some (inexpensive)
wavemakers and wonder if anyone is using either the JBJ Ocean Pulse or the Koralia Smartwave? I read some reviews and
most people are happy with these ...for the money! Some say the Koralia makes a thumping noise when turning on and off.
Is the JBJ compatible with Koralia power heads and vice-versa, is the Koralia wavemaker compatible with the JBJ wavemaker.

Appreciate your input...ready to buy something.

The noise is made by the Koralia power head when the impeller hit the plastic pin to correct its spinning direction.
I use Maxijets with the Koralia controller and there is no noise and work well. For matter of fact, you can easily plug 20 maxi-jet 1200 on a single controller in 2 groups of 10. That is a lot of flow to move water.

Thanks for quick reply. I assume you paid somewhere around $70.00 for the controller if you bought new? I assume this controller is compatible with other powerheads such as your Maxi's
or maybe even JBJ's? When I get more flow in the tank I'll be by too see you for some corals.

Yes, the controller is around $70 new and I think it is the same price everywhere.
It works on Seio pumps too. I tried.

I purchased four (4) koralia 1400's and the Smart Wave wavemaker. I have two on each side of the tank and they alternate every 15 minutes. I am VERY happy with them. I have a 90 gallon mixed reef tank.

I replaced my Maxi-Jet 1200's because I was not happy with them.

Smart Wave wavemaker I have broke 3 Koralia evo power head already. The pin that reverse the pro will break off after certain amount of hits. The worest part is that there is NO customer support from Hydor. If you happen to be able to get hold of a representative, please let me know how you do it.

I will need to cross that bridge if, and when, it happens. I have had two (2) maxi-jet 1200's stop working altogether and that was very frustating. They were less than 12 months old.

I have a smart wave controller for sale. It was used about a month before my wife bought me a RKE as a gift. It's new and I still have the box and manual. $50.00 firm. It also works great and will run any 110 volt powerhead. Let me know I'm on Cape Cod but I may be able to meet somewhere. Also I have also had the pins break on the korolia Evo, Hydor is aware of the problem just email the customer service email addy on there website, tell them what model you have and the pin broke, put you name and address in the email and in about a week you will get a brand new front cage in the mail.

Pesto, 4 X 1400 in a 90 gallon. Are you finding that to be too much movement? I have a 90gal also and was thinking more about 1050's?
Do you have the pumps facing each other mounted on the 2 ends of the tank or some other configuration?

Wolf, interested in your smart wave. I assume it made that "sound" when the pumps went off/on or when they switch direction? No
getting around it?

Cliff - Pestos pumps only run 2 at a time. there is 2 on each side of his aquarium and the 2 sides alternate on a 15 minute schedule. I have seen his tank, everything looks amazing in there.

+1 on the configuration.

I have heard there is no such thing as too much flow. Need to agree ...I think the 1400's are perfect. You are welcome to come by and take a look if you want to.

Danny, Pesto-thanks for prompt response. I'm convinced and I should have realized your running 2 at a time.

Glad to help. If you want a picture PM me your email address.

Update, Just heard from Hydor, they are sending me 6 covers for the three broken ones. Not bad and thanks for the tips.
