What Are Your Favorite Encrusting Corals for Lower or Other Reef Placement? Pics & Why, Please!

As I once again contemplate the madness of buying coral for this new rebuild (Build Thread), I have to ask—do I really want to move away from fish-only? Angels are beautiful, and I’m still not sure if I’ll ever find another reef-safe pygmy angel.

But here I am, thinking about coral placement and potential additions.
I’ll start with one of my all-time favorites—when I first saw it, the price was “are you kidding me?!” territory. Now? It’s fairly common and reasonably priced, so it’s already on my possible wish list:

Jason Fox Jack-O-Lantern Leptoseris
Stock photo below—Because I don't have coral, but if you’ve got your own tank shots, even better! Bonus points for both a in tank shot and a close-up shot stock or otherwise!

So, what are your go-to encrusting corals for lower placement? Higher then where and why. Looking for suggestions, inspiration, and, of course, yet another excuse to buy (and hopefully keep alive) more coral.

Here are a couple of random shots, favias, and chalice. I have a bare bottom and don’t actually want them to encrust the glass. I actually wish I had sand so they could spread out across the sand and be easily fragged.

Wow I like pic 2 a lot 5 and 6 too. Will have to look for fava but I guess 2 is more than I be willing to spend for a frag (At least for now till I am sure things are stable. ) 5 and 6 are probably pricy too. But I think fava look like another winner with lepto. Any of those have names ?
