What is it that keeps us interested in the reefing hobby?

I think I was a fish in my last life…..a love/hate relationship, love the reef but hate the fact that I can’t be around it. It’s always an environment that changes on a consistent basis , something new every week.

The whole ecosystem is fascinating. I enjoy when the polyps extend for food and when the mouth of something like a lobo or dendro opens up after target feeding. I could do without the stingers and poisons of warfare though. As for the trials and tribulations, I think I've had them all. :(

I enjoy the inner peace I get when having a reef system in my home. I was a bit wild in my younger years to say the least and this help keep me grounded.

For me, even though it's a lot of work, and extremely frustrating at times, when it's all said and done it's just a fantastic release to sit and stare. Seeing the tanks thrive, grow and reproduce all while knowing that's something I accomplished for the animals keeps me going. I do my best to provide a close to perfect habitat, and they let me get rid of some stress after some notoriously hard days.
