I have a 28 gallon reef tank with cpr protein skimmer & refugium, metal hallide light. I have had it for over 2 years now. Up until recent I had a few soft corals and 6 fish. My tank had red slime so i bought red slime remover and did 2 doses over 4 days as instructed. Now the red slime is gone but three fish have died and all of my coral are shriveled up. Have tested the water and levels are fine. Salt levels are fine. Also did a water change. Water is a cloudy white.

Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Did you run an airstone? THIS IS A MUST

you were suppose to do a water change in between treatments.

DO a big water change ASAP and run carbon

the ultra life red slime remover did not say to do a waterchange... I have done one since. I did not run an airstone either, should i do that now?

Yes, I am not sure if that one says it, but when I did it you needed to run an airstone, and then do a WC

I just added an airstone and carbon. thank you for the help, hopefully i can turn this around

If I was you I would do a big water change ASAP

I would do another water change tomorrow and then get ready for another the next day if needed.

I had used red slime remover years ago with good luck and no issues but recently I used it on my 55g and it crashed the system. I thought I was going to loose every thing! My candycanes were literally melting away along with many other varieties of corals. I refreshed my carbon and started in with the water changes also crammed as much corals as I could into my 29g temporarily. I think I did 4 water changes in 5 days.
Took a couple of weeks but almost everthing snapped back . Lost my acans and wall hammer though.

Good luck!

when the "red slime algae" (not really algae, actually cyanobacteria) dies off it releases everything it had within its cells into the water, also as it dies it consumes all of the O2 in the water and puts out CO2 with suffocates the fish. my sister did the same thing but in freshwater. walls were green and water was clear day 1, day 2, day 3, and on day 4 when she woke up walls were clear and the water was green and the fish were all dead. soooooo +1 WC and air stone

Do your self a favor and make sure that you have the the water ready for another WC. If you don't need it , it will hold for a few days.

Did you turn the skimmer off? If you left your skimmer on you wont need an airstone and 02 levels should be fine.

Cyrano can be ridden off with a teaspoonful of sugar. I started carbon doseing my first sign of it and used the sugar a few weeks then ween off. Goodluck!

So I did a 20% water change yesterday an today have been running carbon and airtime since yesterday after noon. Do I keep doing 20%, tommorow? Should I do a 50% tommorow?

I have heard people crashing their tank with this stuff, I wonder if you dose too much that it kills your bacteria bed?

I've always been one to try everything chemical free.I had a red slime problem once..increased flow increased waster changes, leasend light and upped gfo.it was gone in a week.
