WTB WTB Large Yellow Fiji Leather Coral

Did you happen to find any frags? I’ve also been looking around
They had some frags at OSA in Coventry I think. There was a bigger piece there too but I think it sold.

There will be more available soon as Fiji is reopened.
Right now according to Walt Smith, the primary exporter in Fiji, they are busy shipping yellow Fiji leathers out. We will see plenty of yellow Fiji leathers soon. Of course the price will drop too. Also this video will help to set the expectations of their color under LED.

Great video, shows the issue well!

I bought a good sized one a couple years back, from BlueZoo I think. Came in pretty tan with just hints of yellow. Morphology looks like S. elegans; I sold the big piece but was able make a couple frags which healed easily and are growing. It’s pretty boring and tan, even under ~10K lighting as in the video. Might be fun someday to set up a 6500K or whiter display refugium/box to see if they’ll color up more yellow.

I got one from tidal gardens that has never colored up under my lighting. It’s pretty but nowhere near the yellow in those pictures. It’s funny that I actually cut it up for frags last night.

The yellow Fiji leathers came to flame during the metal halide years, it is the blue leds that wash the bright yellow color out.
yellow fiji leathers are collected from pretty shallow water and they need a lot of par to thrive, like 400 to 800 par.

Feels like a species tank for some would be the way to go and maybe worth the effort. Could add other daylight-friendly colors. Pink stylo, mangroves, etc
