Tanked on Animal Planet

When they made the phone booth aquarium. The only thing that I was thinking was how the heck are they goileing to clean that tank. I would like to hear the comments of the owners of that tank now that they have had it for a while
Well I think this falls into the category of something they aren't going to edit into the show. But the ATM guys apparently have maintenance contracts with most of their customers so either they are cleaning the tanks themselves or they are paying someone to do it. So in other words, I have a feeling they must take that into account when designing a tank.

the show is still lame, and sucks... these guys are making themselves and their methods look horribly bad, jus so they can be on TV... whether they do things right when the cameras arent running, or if its edited out... the public, as well as anyone who might be getting into the hobby becuz of the show and/or follow their TV shown methods, are gonna be completely mislead... animals will die, and systems will crash very early on... i KNOW its for entertainment purposes, and a few peeps here have lectured and emphasized that, but i dont care one bit... ITS FRIGGEN LAME! and they are gonna give our hobby a bad name imo...

thats even more of my two cents lol, and yes, i am completely speaking from an experienced hobbyist and animal loving point of view... ;)

What's it take for them to have a pre-show disclosure???

All they have to say is :

"Everyone entering the hobby should seek out knowledge from experienced salt water enthusiest.Much of the correct protocol for keeping and introducing marine oranisms are not mentioned in detail during the show cause of time constraints. Please take the time to educate yourself before purchasing any species of fish or invertebrate. And most of all enjoy the hobby.
Your friends at ATM"

I agree Bob, but the even the first line is gonna make them and the show look bad i would think, as the idea is to make them look like the biggest and the best, and that would tarnish their credibility and "knowledge" i would think... besides, they sold out the to channel's company, and they basically have no say what hits the show that people actually see... sad... very sad...

I mean I'm a big time survival show fan and all of them have a disclosure.
They don't do this without a team as you can DIE.

As far as the network goes. This is the same network that brings us Whale Wars?...give me a break.

Even that fraud, Cesar Milan has a disclaimer before every show. Seems like a logical thing to do. This show could end up going 6 and out though...

for some reason, i dont think logic occurs to people who say things like "shark tanks in our sleep"... i swear, that quote alone, 15 mins into the first show, makes me wana slap a fool... or two, lol

It's an intersting show to watch. But I pesonally believe that it's only going to create more frustrated newbies and issues for the pet shop workers/owners.

reminds me of when 101 dalmations first came out. everyone decided they wanted a dalmation puppy and didnt know anything about the breed. when the dogs got older, people realized how much exercise they needed, that they could be difficult to train, etc. and then there was an overabundance of dalmations at shelters all over the country. i would hate to see the same happen with marine tanks. i agree with a previous poster that there should be some sort of disclaimer on the show.

I have already gotten the info that they are using pre-cycled stuff and have commented on that. I also commented that I feel better knowing that they are not just dumping fish into uncycled water. As mentioned in some of the above posts this show is for entertainment not education so you are not seeing all of the behind scenes maintenance and husbandry and if I could remove my comment above I would. I was just having a bad week with the power being out and everything. I am sorry for jumping to conclusions.

on the episode where they made the (incredibly tacky...but arent they all?) mob-themed tank, there was a scene that showed a large container of (presumably pre-cycled) bioballs. what i found most astonishing is that they used tap water that came out 92 degrees and then cooled with ice cubes.

... we can givem some credit especially when the next show is about the kid with the open heart surgery .

oh please. what a pathetic attempt to boost ratings. whats next, extreme home makeover, fish edition?

ok boosting raitings or not he just had a life changing life threatning event and the peace and tranquility of the tank(not to mention the cool factor) might help him heal, and fall asleep at night with a little less pain. Hell if you had that opportunity to do that for him on tv or not I sure hope you would take it. I think it's awesome what they are doing. (ok maybe not the phone booth lol) And I think with a disclaimer as stingy said it would add a lot of peace of mind to many avid reef keepers
Just my $0.02

Does it make me a bad person if I laughed out loud at this comment???

I still say give the show a little credit. Sure, they may well be hacks, but they are clearly supremely talented in their tank building expertise. IMHO, this show is the same as Petco or a misinformed/inexperienced LFS... Great concepts, somewhat dedicated to the hobby, poor technique and advice for anyone to follow.

Personally, I hate the show AND the people. It's a scripted drama "reality" TV crap where they build nice tanks but know NOTHING about the fish in them. Picking starfish out of the water and puffers and making them puff up. Adding fish instantly after the tank is done. Mixing fish that don't get along. And again, they're scripted words and over-all personalities make me actually infuriated when watching the show. I think this show is going to make it seem easy to keep SW fish and then livestock deaths will go up from careless owners. I feel like each and every member on here knows more about fish than them. They're tank builders, not fish keepers and I wish they'd realize that.

i think this thread has gone overboard. either watch it or dont ,stop talking crap about it sound like a bunch a women on a gossip forum .i heard this and that . well guess what they brought us a show that has to do with fish .and its not named how to keep fish or corals its called tanked . its not ok for them to stress fish when people will be watching world wide but its ok for us to stress corals for are own pleasure . pleeaaaassssseee when some one here has a show on animal planet and it airs ,i dont care what they do ill attemp to watch it and givvem there props thats it wether i agree or not .

I must be woman... cuz i have talked crap... lmao... show still sucks ;)

i wouldnt say it sucks, i mean how many times is there a show about fish tanks on national television? maybe it doesnt show the whole process or their mantenance, but that wouldn't be interesting for people besides actually fish keepers,

...Well if you don't like the thread, then either read it or don't. =]
