Do It Yourself Fragging Event and Pest ID meeting!!!

The next BRS meeting will be held Sunday Jan 29th at the Newburyport Elks, 25 Low St, Newburyport, MA 12noon -4 PM

New to fragging? Want to learn but don’t want to risk messing up with your own corals? Well have we got a meeting for you! Come learn how to frag SPS, LPS and softies without worrying about destroying your tank! That’s right you get to actually frag real live corals risk free! Paid members will be allowed to frag up various donated corals graciously donated by Jay’s Aquatics. (Paid members will get first dibs but if we have extra we will allow non paid members to frag)

What will happen to all those frags afterwards? Paid members will be given a free raffle ticket and we will raffle away the frags…
In keeping with the second theme (see below) be sure to do proper QT/treatment measures of any incoming coral. The BRS accepts no responsibility as a result of giving away these FREE frags

There will also be time after fragging and food to discuss proper acclimation and dipping treatment of new corals. There will be actual infected frags set up so members can inspect the infected frags.

Tentative schedule for the meeting (this schedule may change, check back to this thread for updates as we get closer to the day of the meeting):

12noon - 12:30pm - Meet and greet, yard sale registration, new members registration - folks milling about chatting about their tanks - library book signout and return - turn samples in for water testing -

12:00pm – 12:30pm – Frag station setup

12:30pm – 2:30pm - Fragging

2:30pm - Food

2:30-4:00pm – Proper acclimation and dipping techniques and pest ID section

Reminder: we try our best to keep the meeting on time, but there are a lot of things that are out of our control, so the times are subject to change, do not take these times as gospel please. Check back to this thread for updates as we get closer to the day of the meeting.

Sounds like its going to be a good meeting and worth the ride.

I am so excited for this I just purchased a dremmel too for this purpose and have been practicing and been successful. I am a paid member what will I need to bring or is everything provided

Well hopefully it will be a blast!

So if we ID pests correctly do we get to keep them? :p

We should have most of the supplies... We might ask people to bring their own fragging tools as we'd rather have too many than not enough... We'll put out an announcement closer to the meeting when we have a better idea of attendance...

You may want to bring a small cooler and hand warmers for any frags you get. I noticed at the last meeting quite a few people walking around with frag bags in hand. With the cold weather here It is a good idea to keep them warm.
I have never been to a meeting, and would like to come. Should I bring anything with me for my first time?

Meeting is coming up, lots of frags to be raffles off plus you get to frag them yourselves :)

I thought I was going to be able to bring some flat worms, But looking in the seahorse tank, I only see 1 on the glass. That tank was covered in flatworms at one time. I guess the larger sump and better cleaning practice has paid off.

Chances are we'll push the Grow out a few months as there really hasn't been much growth... And no fish goo this meeting but we'll aim for it sooner rather than later...

And don't forget no football that weekend so no excuses to miss a great meeting!!!

Can I become a paid member at the event and be able to participate as a paid member? I want to make sure I am definitely coming XD I've been wanting to come for awhile, it will be my first time. I have "lots" of coral and I want to know as much about it before I do something retarded and ignorant haha. Can you assign me something to bring for the fish goo? Easier for me. Also I live near a cambridge naturals for anything bizarre...
