Reef OK w/Hard wood floors getting sanded?

Has anyone had their hardwood floors sanded and poly 'd around their reef tank ?

What precautions did you take? How did you make out?

My sump is in my basement, so I just have to worry about the Dt. Plan on sealing the top with plastic and throwing blankets over that.

Any other tips or concerns appreciated!

Mike

I went through that many years ago with a 90G mixed reef tank full of corals. The only thing i could do was to cover the tank very well and i believe i left lights off....can not remember that. It was just one day for installing, one for polishing it and another for the poly. The funny part was when i sold the house i had to add and finish all the section under the tank.

All went OK.

You can use prefinished floor wood. In that moment i do not have the $$$$ to buy those floors.

Thanks Dan. Ya, I won't have access for 3 days. I'm going to move a lot of my corals to my basement FT so thet will have light. The fish will be fine. I know there is going be tons of dust for days. I think my biggest concern is there any danger of chemical contamination from the poly vapor that I have to worry about?

I understood that. Dust is not the main problem.

The poly they used in my house was a good one but just the standard. With all the odors and chemicals you can imagin

Good to hear you had no problems. I'm going for the best. I just had a major tank loss a few months ago, not sure I could handle another.

Saran Wrap over your sump and tank and any exposed water until it's all done and cleaned up. Lift a corner once and a while to let air in or keep a bubble maker going with a filter over the intake of bubble maker

Thanks RK. I was going to use heavier poly and duct tape it to the glass. Then toss a blanket over top of that.

Bryan, why turn off the skimmer? Its in the basement and I would want to keep it running for air. The basement door is going to be sealed and the door to the fish room sealed. I'm going to put a cover over the sump, but wasn't going to wrap it. I do want some air to get in and I am not going to be able to get at the tank for 3 days.

If you're sealed up then you should be OK....I just don't like the skimmer pulling in anything but clean air! Maybe you can put a bag of carbon on or around the intake.
