I have a 120 non reef ready tank and I was looking at gl**************s overflow to feed my sump. They recommend the 3000 kit for tanks 100-200 gal. Anyone with experience with sizing these overflows?
I love how the auto censor corrects this all the time
I've read nothing but good things about these. If I was gonna build I wouldn't hesitate buying one
That I do not know, is that what they recomend? I'm on my phone right now, maybe someone who has one of their kits will chime in before I can get home and look stuff up.
I know a bunch of people that have them and are very happy with them but have never used one myself
They recommend 1000gph continuous flow for this overflow but the next step down is recommended for up to 110 gal tank. Wierd split but I guess the larger kit can't hurt
Kinda what I was thinking too. Are there any drawbacks of too large an overflow? I emailed them already to ask questions but prob won't hear back from them for at least a day
Surprisingly heard back from them already. Less than an hour! Now that's customer service! They said either the 1500 model with 2 drains or the 3000 would both suit my needs and there is no negatives on using a larger overflow if I wanted. Just figured I'd post up their response in case anyone else wondered
I always thought that a lot of people use the 1500. I guess at the end, like was mentioned, return pump comes in to play as well as what exactly you are trying to accomplish with the sump. Some move as much water as they can while others go slower so as to have more contact time with the skimmer.
The larger overflow will only move the output of my return pump. I just wanted to make sure if I did go bigger(just in case) that there wouldn't be any negative effects
Glass-holes really has great customer service. Make sure to ask for extra enkamat when you order ( they'll add more free, and it helps quiet the overflow). If you put the hyphen in it doesn't censor
+3 or 4 or 5..... Larger size has no negative effects, most is based on your return pump. I only went larger for safety and future (but more so safety). If by accident one drain gets clogged can the the 2nd handle the pump? The enkamat should help with no clogging but in this hobby we've all met Mr.Murphy!!
One thing I wish I did with mine was discard the provided 90 degree elbow and replace it with a "T" and "End Cap". With that setup you can have better control of the "gurgle". Similar to a reverse durso setup just at tank level vs sump.
