Giesemann Spectra questions

i have a wxm just never hooked it up. The gen 2 are not wireless, i have to plug them in and run mess with them on ecosmart live

been reading a bit on MH... i dont think they will work with my tank being in the living room. We do have central air but the wife barely uses it unless its uncomfortably hot. Ive seen the living room get to 82 before she turns the air on. So i will probably need to buy a chiller and i really dont have the room for one.

Tell her that the AC is cheaper to run than a chiller. Chiller is not very effective unless it is located in another room other than the tank is in. It just put the heat back into the room and heat the tank backup.

do you think having only one inch left in the canopy is ok? just afraid of it getting way to hot

Do you mean 1 inch from the water surface?
Some canopy is too short for metal halide. You need 4 to 5 inch away fro water surface or water splash will crack the UV shield/glass/SE bulb that without glass shield. If the fixture has build in fans, you need 2 to 3 inch clearance on top of the fan.

i meant width wise. the canopy is 73 inches wide and the fixture is 72 inches. so id have about a half inch on both side before it hits the canopy. height isnt a problem i have a 15 or 18 inch high canopy i forget what it is but i know my radions are 12inches off the water

I don't think they're exactly 72". I can measure it when I get home.
Never a fan of rats rest retrofit system under the canopy. The Spectra has 3 wires for the 3 halides, and 1 for the T5. I think I have a picture of it in my build thread.

if you could measure it that would be awesome. ill find your build thread now

been reading through your build... for someone that never picked up a hammer you sure did a great job on the basement. im up to the actinics pictures... the tank looks amazing under the MH. i like that it doesnt have the washed out blue look like when you take pictures under leds. It is definitely making me want this light even more and just cranking up the central air and having my wife whine at me

Halifax is quite a haul but if you're up for it, swing by to check on the light and make sure it's really what you want. Lighting can be quite an expensive experiment. If you can handle the heat, it's very unlikely that you will not like the Spectra.

With that kind of price tag, you better force yourself to love it.

Thanks for the offer, that is definitely a haul and I have quite the man cold so ill stay away :D. i think im going to order it. i need to figure out how to install the fans in the canopy.

I just wont tell my wife how much it costs :D its easier that way

Or you can tell her and enjoy the AC every night on the couches
