I'm Back (Kind of)... it has only been about 15 years.

Hi All,
After a short 15-year hiatus from the hobby, I am back. I am now living in Florida. I was pretty active in the BRS from about 2005 - 2009. I had a 90-gallon tank and loved the hobby. I have decided (Or my Kid has decided) that it was time to jump back into the hobby. I bought a 40 Gallon Waterbox Marine AIO. We just set it up and I am already wondering if I am crazy for jumping back in. The hobby has changed SO much! LED Lights and Wireless connectivity... So cool!.

I am sure that I will have a ton of questions as I have forgotten a lot and need to get caught up. Also, if anyone from the early 2000's era is still here, I would love to hear from you. I still think fondly of the trading corals in the parking lot and the annual Meat Nights!

Welcome back Scott. Did you used to collect matchbooks or am I thinking of someone else.

Welcome back! I was in high school and became a member around 05 stayed in until I left for college. I came back once before for a short stint but now I’m back again for the long run. Good luck with the new tank, setting/running them with the kids makes it more worth your while.

Welcome back

I faded out as well, came back last year. Welcome back!

And yea, a lot has changed. Among other things we now tend to worry more about keeping nitrate and phosphate UP, instead of down as used to be the norm.

Lots of co new equipment to blow money on, wireless connections, automated testing and dosing, equipment in colors brighter than our corals…..
Not so much DIY anymore, everything is available off the shelf if you don’t mind paying the bill.

Still the same hobby though. No one needs an $800 neon colored sump, but they are available if that’s your thing. Beware of expensive trends. :)

What about a non neon colored one that I bought for $1500 delivered. Crazy to think of the money I spent on this last system, could've bought a nice new car. I definitely miss the days of yesteryear.

As long as it's not neon :)
