Opinions on Azure Damsels—Or Will It Always Be Highlander Rules?

Thinking about adding a trio of Azure Damselfish, but will it inevitably end in “there can be only one”?

Somewhere deep in my ancient aquarium brain, I recall blue damsels being a bad idea in reefs. I can’t remember why—selective memory, perhaps? I know Chromis and clowns are technically damsels, but I’m looking for other options besides Anthias for an active, multi-fish combo.

Maybe just a single Azure for that pop of blue/yellow, plus a Cardinals with a Melanurus or Leopard Wrasse? Anyone successfully kept damsels? If so, what kind—or is that just a fast track to underwater gladiator matches?

I had an azure and a 3 stripe for 6 years before velvet took their lives. they were actually pretty cool. the 3 stripe at times could be a little pushy but over all pretty decent for the time I had them. Damsels can be dicks so you never know

Springeri damsels for the win!!! Flatworm eaters cool looking and in my experience they are quite docile.

I have one Azure and he has been a model citizen for years.

I've had a single yellow tail damsel for years and he's fine with everything except another yellowtail damsel. I had a single azure and he was fine as well. A big tank with plenty of rock
