I harvested and fed my pod cultures today (6 species and 12 one gallon cultures) and was able to almost fill up two large specimen containers worth of pods that went into the fuge!

Right now I have Parvocalanus Crassieostris, Tisbe Biminiensis, Tigriopus Californicus, Tigriopus Sirindhornae, Apocyclops Panamensis, "Harpa" pods (from Reef by Steele) and I have two other species on order!

@afboundguy i just started my first pod culture too, do you know when i should harvest it. It’s been 2 weeks roughly, do i need to sieve them or just splitting is enough? Thx for your info

Shine a flashlight through the container and if there's a decent amount swimming/floating around I would culture. I typically leave them alone for the first week or two to let them build up a breeding population. At this point I could harvest every day with the exception of the T. Californicus "Tigger" pods that just don't seem to want to take off.

I sieve them every once in a while more towards the beginning of the culture but now I just take a turkey baster (I have a baster for each species so I don't contaminate any of the cultures). When I would sieve them I would flip the sieve over and pour phyto through the other side so they'd go back in the culture.
That MJ song makes the pods seem sad. LOL
I liked it since they're not all alone! LOL

do you ever just feed spirulina powder in lieu of phyto? Just wondering if ever all your cultures crashed how would you continue the pod population while getting back up and running?

Thx man. I think i only have tisbee, as of this morning the one gallon jug is pack full. I dont have a sieve, i’m thinking maybe just take 1/2 of them to new gallon jug with new water + phyto and dose the rest to my tank. Would that be okay? Any downside of not sieve-ing them?

You have pics of your set up? I’m trying to imagine 12 cultures! Haha

I have done that before in the past but not yet since I've restarted the cultures this time. I run at least two cultures of every species for that reason and I have three of the Parvo pods as they're supposed to be super difficult to culture.

In the past I never really did proper water changes and this time around I plan to do 75-100% water changes every 2-3 months to help avoid crashes.

That is basically what I did to double my cultures. Add mainly fresh SW to new cultures and then tint it appropriately with new phyto.

These pictures don't have the new "Harpa" pod culture but the rest are on this picture.

Wow, that’s a production, imprrssive. How often do you feed the tank. The length you go to take care of your mandarin, hahahah

I love my mandarins!!! I try to feed my tank daily with combination of frozen and pellet and dose the tank with the pods every 1-2 days.

Once I get off my keister and setup the Hydros system I am going to set back up the pellet food dispenser and create a automatic frozen food setup with some dosers!

When it comes to pods and phyto Dave is no joke lmao, witnessed it first hand
Oh it is even worse now! Wait until I get the other two copepod species it will get even worse!
