Power out in Brockton I might need help at some point

any updates MAuro?

If needed we can throw everyone in the sump with the extra light unit over it then just massive water change when time comes to get them out :)

They are working on the power now. (Clearing the trees around the corner that are sitting on the power line ) Tank temp is fine, the fish are fine, I am worried about stale water in pipes affecting things, but I am probably being silly.

how about the calcium reactor? Did you think to turn the gas off?

Yeah power went out for me last night for about 3 or 4 hours. Temperature and lighting are nothing important to worry about for a long while but lack of oxygen is. I don't have any big batteries or a battery powered air pump or a generator so I used a primitive method....a bicycle pump. I poked a bunch of holes in a plastic hose and jammed it on the end of the pump and put it in the tank. Every 15-30 minutes I would pump some air into the tank. I really need to buy a battery air pump...

I ended up buying more of them than I need. If you want a couple for what I paid for them ~13 bucks or so, shoot me a PM. It's not like we're far apart geographically

Mauro:

Probably a good thing that I wasn't able to come by to pick up those extra battery back up pumps.

Looks like you should be back up & running shortly
I wouldn't worry too much about the water
But I think I would do at least a small water change

Power is back on, I am on my way home to check on things.
Thanks for the encournagement and offers of support folks.

Maurod,

The bubblers will go for about 3-4 days continuously on a fresh pair of batteries. I know it's late for this, but as long as the temp of your tank stays below about 85-86 you should be okay. The fish will not likely have a problem with the high temps as long as you have the bubblers going. Your corals might start to have problems with the high temps, but NOT having the lighting on with the high temps will help. The lack of water motion with high temps might affect your corals though. If you have some ice bottles, now is the time to float them in your tank.

I agree that the water in your lines might go anaerobic, but I don't think there is likely to be enough volume in the lines to make much of a difference when the water is diluted into the full volume of your tank as the pumps kick back on.

I surprisingly didn't lose power last night, but it went out today at around 1pm and didn't come back until about an hour ago. Had a battery air pump and I periodically stirred the water around so I was o.k. So far everything looks good.

Hi M I hope the power comes back soon. I know how stressful it can be to care for fish without electricity, especially if their filters or heaters are not working. Do you have a backup battery or temporary setup for them or would you need someone to help watch them? Also, how many fish do you have and what kind are they? That way anyone offering help can be better prepared.
