#1 looks like a Devil's hand (or finger)...are the polyps yellow?

#2 stumps me...The polyps look a lot like gorgonian polyps, but the flesh looks like a leather.

#1 Polyps are Greenish/Yellow - at night it retracts haevily and darkens.

Coral ID

I would agree with willray. The first looks like a devil's hand and will be easier to identify once it starts to grow out. The second does look like a Colt Coral. The little polyps are at least indicative of the colt coral. I have a very large one with about 50 of these branches. It is pink in color under the halides and grows fast. I gave half of it to a friend and it is almost as big again in just a couple of months.

1st one is a devils hand.2nd one looks like a colt coral.

i agree that the first is a devils hand but i disagree with the second one being a colt coral, i have the same exact coral in my tank just a different color and it is a finger leather
very nice corals by the way

You caught me Dawn - I've been cheating on you.;) Actually when I think about it the Colt would have either come from you or Cheetos. I'm pretty sure the Devil's Hand or Finger came from you. Is sinularia the proper name for Colt coral??

Thanks All.

?

The Devils hand has nothing to lean against or support it, should it?? I believe I have seen pics of it "resting" against rock - or would that be an irritant??

Thanks

Does the second look like this closer up image?

I Can't really tell, Mine is prob much younger. The base area on mine seems to be much thicker going narrow as it climbs where as yours seems consistent in width. What is this in your pic??

Thanks

i'm sure it's not a gorgonian.... definately a soft coral, most likely a colt coral...or even a kenya tree

yes, i'm sorry, the background coral in the first pic is the kenya....as i looked quickly i thought the secong pic was a pic of the background coral, but i see it's not....sorry again.

it might also be some sort of finger leather the way it seems to be branching from the base and not from a "trunk" like a tree.

I agree #1 is devil's hand Lobophytum sp. and #2 is finger leather Sinularia sp. Colt coral is Klyxum - I don't think that's what it is, but a lot of the branching leather corals and tree corals look the same to me when they're small.

Kevin's gorgonion looks like knobby sea rod Eunicea to me.
