I want to add a tang in my 4 foot tank. I am considering a Kole, Yellow, blue, or Powder Brown tang. I would like to upgrade to a 6 foot tank but not for another year.
I love my Kole tang. Model citizen. He mostly just chills by himself cruising around picking at the rocks and glass. They're pretty passive and can be bullied around by other fish, especially tangs, so make sure you have friendly tankmates.
I saw a juvenile chevron, great looking fish. How long does it take them to charge their coloring? Anyone have an adult chevron they can post a picture of.

I think that guy in the last pic is actually a chevron tang that's part way through it's color shift?? I say this because of the lack of spots around the face, the yellow and blue on the tail, and the lack of a yellow ring around the eye which koles usually have (at least when young??) You can see the spots around the face on the first pic posted, but no yellow ring around the eye (does that fade as the Kole's mature? or is it an origin thing?)
If so, it's a very similar tang in terms of size, behavior and eating habits. Main difference is that the chevron's are very colorful as juveniles, and they cost way more $$. As they age they get a lot plainer looking and do resemble kole's.
I used to have a kole and it never touched any zoa's. (and the chevron that's going into my system this week better not eat them either )
Here's a link with a pic of a typical younger Kole. Note the spots around the face, and the more overall brownish without the hints of blue, yellow and green on the body.
