CA at 600 wow! Worried?

So for years I had an MG defficiency and was feeding a TON of CA to the tank to keep it at 350. I got used to dosing lots of CA and assumed it was just my tank... then i got a hold of my low MG problem .. was 850 now 1250..

All of a sudden with the same dose rates, within 2 weeks ca is 600. Ok.. So I backed off the CA does by 50%

The high CA amount isnt going to harm anyone is it? It will just get used up in a week or two? Should I worry?

Everything else is great chemically..

Don't know if this helps any but my CA had gone up to 550 so I shut down my reactor and I would say within about 10 days it had come back down to about 420. I just tested every other day to see what my ALK was doing and supplemented accordingly. No adverse effects on livestock.

What's your alk at? If it's high too you will most likely see a rapid precipitaton and drop in levels. If the Ca and alk are both testing high, with the ca at 600, you should retest as there may be test error coming into play.

Totally agreed!!!

I'd just stop dosing calcium, keep the alkalinity between 2.5-3.0 meq/l and wait. I don't think there will be any problems. Be careful not to case any pH swings high though or you might cause a precipitation event.

This happened to me last summer. I stopped dosing (BIonic) and in around 7 - 10 days the Ca was back to around 400. All livestock did nicely and there were no casualties.
