Waaay to many Bristle worms

sw300galma

Sgt. Tang Police
Without lowering feeding the tank, How can i get rid of them?

They are Swimming around in the tank!!!

You can get a bristle worm trap like I got from Aquarium Gallery. From my experience, it will probably catch 2-3 per night. I am happy with the results.

It also catches mini brittle stars, but you can sort thru them and chuck those back in the tank.

Thanks for the tip...

Anything that eats them?

Craig, a nylon stocking baited with shrimp will attract them, they stick to the sock and you can yank a bunch up.

2 coral bands in my 92, no bristles, 1 in my 72, still no bristles. My refugium has a bunch....

Ahhh, Orchid Dottyback. Beautiful fish and loves bristle worms. One of my favorite fish really.

The only problem I've had with a dottyback is that it can wipe out a shrimp population... I've also found it awfully intolerant of new fish. ANother candidate that I've read about has its up sides and down sides: six line wrasse. No personal experience with it though.

Arabian Dottyback in my 72. Large, mean, and a suspect in the murder of a coral band and cleaner shrimp. Did see it harass a mimic tang to death. No more new fish in my 72. :(

The royal gramma and dottyback gave conflicting testimony in the trial, so neither were found guilty, and they both still remain in the tank.

If/when my 72 gets re-scaped/rebuilt, all of the fish in it but 1 chromis are going away......

I aggree with this, I had probably the worst bristle worm problem ever and within maybe a couple weeks there were barely any left in my tank. I used freeze dried kirll, that stuff smells. I put it in the front of the sock and elasticated it so the worms couldnt get to it and then they would get stuck on the sock and then in the morning I would pull them up and there were hundreds of them.

We have had an orchid dottyback along with two peppermint shrimp, two blood shrimp and a cleaner shrimp for nearly a year without issue. Bristleworms have been under control the whole time.

The stocking + bait seems to work fastest.

I may have to try the sock idea. We've got a ton of bristleworms in the nano. Big ones, too.
