Sorry the photo is not the best.

We thought the green tentacle like thing was a Spaghetti worm. We had described it to John at Sea Creature, he said that it was probably a Spaghetti worm and they were good.

Last week we had a piece of green montipora near by the green tentacles. The montipora died after a few days, slowly turning brown. Then after that we had a piece of purple montipora that we placed in the same area. Again this piece of montipora died.

My question is what is this green tentacle thing and is it stinging the corals that I place near it? If the green thing is bad what do I do? Can it be killed somehow? Will it stay where it is and not spread out? Do I have to remove the rock?

Spaghetti worm is the stringy thing, it is a good guy. Not sure what you are refering to other than that?

can you see the source of the tentacles?

If they're all coming from a single point in the rock, then that also points to spaghetti worm.

The dying monti's are conflicting evidence, however.

It could be the montis just don't like that spot. Is there adequate light and flow in the area? The dying montis could be totally unrelated. Are your water params in check? How long has the system been up?

I'd agree, the dying montis are probably unrelated to the spaghetti worms. My tank is loaded with them, and I've seen them do nothing but good things (cleaning up poop), never any harm.

delta, I am asking if the Spaghetti worm could be the cause of the lost montipora and if so what could be done.

bonz, the tentacles come from a crevice in the rock, sometimes they come out from another crack.

ReeferMedic, water parameters are all good. I test weekly to keep an eye on that. There is good flow and light there. The montis had lived in the tank happily for a week before I moved them to that spot, then the died over a 2-3 day period. The system has been up for 8 weeks now.

Could have been the move that did them in. I've had that happen in the past as well as many other members here. Some times they just don't like certain spots for whatever reason.

Picky picky, moved it 4 inches and it would rather die. We shall just treat that spot as the Bermuda Triangle then.

Don is correct but don't let it discourage you. Although, I say leave a coral if it is doing well, I have moved some that have improved ten fold in their new spot so it really depends.
