I need help to figure this out

Dose Kalk water.

8.0 is too low.

I'm surprised nobody has asked this question....Do you have anything in your tank that eats it? IMO, you will have it in your tank unless you have something that consumes it. I never had any issues with hair algae until recently and the biggest change I've noticed is that I don't have any grazing fish or any turbo snails anymore.

You name it I had it for grazing hair algae nothing touches this stuff. Except red leg hermits but they only eat it when it's really short.

Are you sure it is hair algae and not bryopsis? They look a lot alike until you look pretty close.

This is bryopsis

Shmally has a great point.

Controlling hair algae by limiting nitrate and phosphate never work in long term with good result. The key of HA control is to introduce something that consume it.

Like I said before the only thing that's eating this stuff is the red leg hermits but I think I need 100 more. My algea blenny, purple tang, yellow tang, sallylitefoot, turbo snails, and the lettuce nudibranch never touch this stuff.

I had a bad hair algae problem to until I introduced around 4 Emerald crabs.... then and the hermits went right to work... The Emeralds were great.

You can test until you are blue in the face. Herbivores, and more herbivores, IMO is the answer (unless as noted it's Bryopsis). Snails (Astrea, the cheapest) and blue-legged (the cheapest) hermits.

I had caulerpa/HA here and there in my 55.
I'm not sure if this would work in a larger tank. But I just kept plucking it out manually. Then take a turkey baster and blast out every crevice that the stuff grows in.Then the last step.
I won a bottle of Phos-Buster Pro.I'm really not a fan of chemicals, but this did the trick.I did two treatment with the stuff 2 weeks apart.I have 1 very large emerald crab and he has turned his attention to whatever bubble algae is left.I actually have to suppliment with formula 2 the green cubes every once in a while now.I'm not sure how this stuff worked but it filled my skimmer cup to the brim in 48 hrs with some nasty stuff.

Yeah testing if your tank is over run is useless, the algae is eating up the excess nutrients faster then they are produced/added.

The best thing to do, if you have nuisance algae, is to do water changes once a week (maybe more for the first 2 weeks) until things start to change around. Keep your skimmer up to par and reduce feeding. Also vacuum your sump, fuge or anywhere else detritus is building up. When changing the water take a PH and blow off the rocks to get as much into suspension before siphoning off your water.

Adding carbon and phosphate remover can help. But remember what you do today will take weeks or even longer to make a difference.

If it is macro algae you will need natural predators of the specific algae.

Cleanup crews are pretty inadequate once things have gone past a certain state. Not that they do not play an important role, they are only a small part of the equation.

My .02cents

I have emerald crabs and they don't touch the hair aglae.

you need more. Like peppermint shrimps.

When I have three peppermints in the tank, they didn't touch Apt@ti$#a at all. When I have 2 dozen and more, I am aptasia free for years.

I also have astrea's and blue legged hermits and they don't go near the HA

OK I finally get it I need a huge clean up crew and not just a bare minimum sometimes I'm so think headed.

I do this sometimes I didn't know that it was important, I do have a large amount that settles in my sump.
