Running Carbon

I have been reading the forum for alittle while now, and sometimes I see the advice of running Carbon. But majority of the individuals do not run a canister filter. How do you run Carbon if you only have a Skimmer, LR and Sump? Is it the Bio Balls you can get with Carbon in it?

I know this may sound as a odd question or I may have the answer for it but I been trying to figure it out for some time.

Thanks!

So far I have ran my carbon in a HOB filter. I am switchin to Kent Reactor to run my carbon from now on, since from what I have read seems to be a more of an effective way.

A media bag of carbon over the intake of your return pump in the sump or media bags inserted between the baffles in the sump. Also works with nitrate media and phosphate media.

I ran mine in a phosban reactor
And what are the biggest benefits for running Carbon?
Very clear water...Removes toxins from the water too. IMO, it is a must to run if you have softies and SPS in the same tank.
