TANK CRASH IN PROCESS: please help

Greg has the right advice above, however, I'd believe it's that recent addition bringing something bad into your tank.

M.

only fish to survive (so far) is nemo. he looks like he's not breathing easy....
the others were 2 pajama cardinals, a stripe damsil, a royal gamma, and 2 blue chromis in addition to the CBB. there is only nemo (true perc) left.

Nemo may be your only chance to figure out what killed the others. Watch him carefully for symptoms of disease or parasite. If he gets sick pay very close attention to his signs, and maybe take pictures. I'd go look up pictures of diseases like brooklynella, and other, so you can recognize them if they are manifest on your clown.

Good luck. Sorry about the die off. :(

Why don't you just ask nemo what happened? He may be a serial killer...:D Sorry, I know this sucks. Just trying to add some levity to the situation. Lost a bunch of corals yesterday myself due to my Anemone moving.

Scott

Scott can't you just make the anemone disappare?

He did...it disappeared to his neighbor's.

I think Nate has it nailed. I would watch nemo for signs of what ailed the other fish. If nemo doesn't make it, I would suggest a 2 month fallow period before adding any fish.....

I am NOT trying to pile on, but did you QT the CBB before introducing it? Seems like you might not have.....

Sounds like brook could very likley be your killer if your true perc is breathing heavy. Alot of times there are no other signs of brook till its in its final stages.

Sea apple , they are very pretty but kinda risky in my book.

UPDATE:
1) sea apple was removed 18 months ago.
2) Nemo is still alive, but looks confused, lonely, breathing a bit heavy, BUT, still Nemo...
3) Cant find anything wrong with equipment.... But i think it's time for a tank re-org and replacement of older power heads anyway...
4) I added a big bag of carbon.
5) have been slowly raising ALK
6) Corals look "ok".. although the aiptasia look better!
7) the tank smelled bad for a couple days (before the carbon) due to missing dead fish I'd assume.... IE i didnt find all of them. but the hermits did.
8) Now that there are no fish.. what's the most efficient way to get the aiptasia? CBB or Pep-Shrimp? or other? Always seemed the CBB was harrassed by other fish. (no longer issue).

Ummm.... are you saying you didn't get all the dead fish out? Did you ever check your ammonia levels? Maybe Nemo is breathing heavy due to an ammonia overload.... a water change would be in order, too.

I agree with checking the amonia level. Leave the aiptasia for now. If nemo isn't looking good, chances are the water quality isn't good for a CBB. I'd focus on water quality and get that straight before I added anything live.

I definitely wouldn't add anything alive to the tank until you get the problems figured out. And certainly not a delicate fish like a CBB. Those often die when introduced to even the most stable systems.

Check that ammonia immediately and get back to us.

Continued update:
I don't plan on adding anything anytime soon. But after I have it under control. Assuming no other fish, which eat Aiptasia faster, 1 CBB (I assume you cant have more than 1) or say 2 dozen pep shrimp..
Regarding amonia.. Well, yes I'd like to test that, but i ran out of the indicators... I did test NO2 and No3 both were low or undetactable, and since my tank is LR/LS heavy, i'd assume the cycle is taking care of business..

If Nitrate and Nitrite are undetectable, there might still be a significant amount of amonia that hasn't began to break down, since they are the second and third step in the process. If you still see undetectable levels in a few days, you may be able to assume amonia is zero, but I'd still want a test result before I spent any $ on livestock.
