This stuff is really growing nicely under 6500K.
I would also note that so does purple coralline.
The first photo had a Lights of America fixture(that got water in it and fried).
Second picture is a 65 watt 6500K spotlight in a clip on worklight holder.(might go to a 90 watt).
Here'a a before and after,2 months between pictures.
The display upstairs is looking great.

I need to figure out how to get a small fuge into my system....

Definitely Joel,

I would imagine by the growth of this ball that's it's removed a lot of nutrients from the water. Not sure if the fug. and new skimmer have something to do with this, but my xenia elongata is dying.
It's turning white and basically melting.

Xenia is funny... i lost some of mine too, it all melted away and i thought it was gone for good... a few months later it started growing on the side of a frag plug that i had next to the colony of xenia itself... weird.

Problem with my fitting a fuge in is that everything is under my stand. I either need to replace my whole sump and just add a fuge compartment, or figure out how to plumb in another really small tank.

xenia lives better in less than pristine water. I should know, it grows like weeds in my system. My 40g refugium is overtaken by macroalgae

I've heard that it will die off in summer naturally then come back.
I do know that my Coral Beauty has also been taking nips at it.

well my water quality at the time was not great... but now my water is good and it back, so who knows.

I've got a "day glo" turtle light in a clip on work light on my fuge & the cheato is insane just like yours. I need to replace the light with something that will stunt its growth by about half & I'll be happy.

I had just a few strands of chaeto that gathered at the filter intake in the QT.Now it's a ball almost as big as my hand.Makes a nice place for the freaked out Yellow tang to hang out near.:.

Huh,a "day glo" not sure what that is.
I had a 65w Lights of America fixture over it for about 3 weeks.
But I goofed around with my ball valves and had water spraying out the top of my reverse durso while I was at work. The light was still working until I tried to tip the water out from under the lens.......pop.

the day glow is a brand of sun lamp for turtles lol.

It must be in the right spectrum to have good growth in the refugium.
I'll check it out next time I hit the pet store.

Looks good Bob.

One caution, be really careful with that bulkhead going into flexible tubing on the end of the ref tank. That thing has a whole lot of leverage against the glass, if something leans on, or even bumps the tube the glass will crack really easily. No real problem, but don't underestimate how easy it is to crack a tank when something levers agains a bulkhead.

Oh by the way Bob, Did you know that your basement concrete floor is not level. :p:D

I know John, when I cut the hole with the dremil it was quite nerve racking.
I have the tube held to the wall a good distance from the bulkhead so it's not pulling or causing stress.Just taking the wieght of the tubing and water flowing through it off the bulkhead.

I know that's a fact Jenn.
But neither is the stand I built.
Or that slight tip in my camera angles.lol
