Funny things happen in a tank

So I have had a hi fin red banded goby paired up with a pistol shrimp for about 15 months now. The two of them have never left the entrance of their cave, but they come out about 6 inches and that's it. They have good personality and I see both of them all the time, especially when I feed.

The funny thing is, today I noticed that the pistol has dug a whole new tunnel from the original cave to another entrance in the middle of the tank. So they now pop out of two sides depending on what they feel like I guess. I just thought it was funny that it would take them 15 months to do this if they were ever going to do it.

Maybe I am just a geek, but the personality of the fish in our tanks is funny sometimes.

any pictures

Mine seem to have a series of tunnels with 3-4 entrances.. but luckily like you mine seem to hang out right in front, probably so they can seem me bringing the food!

My Firefish was always out with his tankmates until I got a Pistol last year. They now occupy a series of tunnels and caves together. The Firefish has become very skittish and will fly back into his tunnel whe I approach the tank. He still comes out to feed and every now and then to socialize, but mostly peeks out of the tunnel and watches what goes on. The symbiotic relationship he has with the Pistol is fun to see.:)

i have 2 watchmen gobys four about 2 years now my pistol has about 6 diffrent holes he made the gobys dont go more than 3inches away from the hole besides if im feeding i put a small hand full off shells in front of the holes and the pistol uses them to biuld walls 2 hold the holes open at night gobys go in the hole and the pistol closes the door i can see under my tank so i see them under the rock

Yup, same here with my Pistol. He has a fortress of shells that would rival Ft. Knox!! :D

haha! That's so interesting. It amazes me what these fish/fish tanks do sometimes

Jprince, i had the same experience with my firefish. He was my favorite fish and one of the most colorful firefish ive ever seen. I got the shrimp and goby pair and about 6 months after i got them the goby began gettng very territorial and actually opening his mouth, and going after fish that swam near his burrow. eventually my firefish retreated to a cave and just looked out, this lasted about a month then i never saw the firefish again.
