Aquarium in Shanghai China

I though some people might like some pictures of the Shanghai Aquarium. It’s big, but I think about 75% of the displays are fresh water. I would have like to see more salt water. The fresh water was kind of boring. It has a very nice layout with glass tubes and a moving walkway you can ride on, witch takes about 20 minutes. It was a lot like the aquarium in South Carolina. It took me about 2.5 hours to see the entire aquarium.

Very clean lookin tanks! Not a bit of algae anywhere. Do me a favor and grab me one of those yellow anglers (i think its an angler?) in the first pic and throw it in your pocket for me, it would look very cool in my sump!

I really like the jellyfish makes one think of procreation instead of recreation. The freshwater displays were awesome some of the fish were monstrous in size, they claim that the glass tunnel is the longest in the world.

On land I enjoyed the panda's!!!

I noticed they had 5 people in the main tank scrubbing rocks, and 2 people vacuuming the sand. I'm guessing they have a huge crew to clean when the place is closed. Labor is so cheap here. I didn't bring my net, I also not sure how I would explain the fish in customs :)

The fresh water tanks were nice and there was some huge fish, but they are still not as colorful as the salt. I wish I had my camera hand one day when I was in a grocery store. They had some fresh water tanks with some fish almost as big as what was in the Aquarium.

Man that's awesome... I need to get to an aquarium again... It's been a while since I've been to NEAQ...

good pics jeff u did well

wow.... would have liked to see more coral.... but nice..

that guy is hugging a panda!

Forget the fish..I want the panda!!! That is so amazing you actually got to hold one, do they let everyone hold it?? I knew I should've traveled more when I was over there! Great pics, looks like you had an amazing time!! :)

This is not a very good picture, the tank lights were off, and my good camera was packed away. This tank is at the main entrance of the Shanghai Airport.

I didn't get any pictures but at the Shenzhen Airport, there is a tank about the same size in the main entrance. There is also a mixture of 40 gal fresh and salt water tanks ate each of the gates.

How heavy was that panda?! Looked like a great trip.

In terms of aquariums, anyone visiting San Francisco has to go to their new Academy of Sciences museum (http://www.calacademy.org/academy/exhibits/aquarium/). Their aquarium section is not big, but it's well-done. They try to use natural light in addition to halides. And they really emphasize in teaching the visitors about the ecology and environment. And it's just a cool building.
