my re-build thread

the mesh is 1/4", but 1/2" would work as well. And yeah, i'm just going to use it to keep my wrasse and others in the tank instead of on the carpet ;) .

I'm running out the door right now, but thanks for all the responses on this guys. When i get back i'll read into everything more and decide which way seems the easiest to me =).

remind me never to work with Mag drive pumps again... noisy run, run hot, vibrate a lot, AND VOLUTES CRACK LIKE NO BODY'S BUSINESS. Other than that quite a nice little pump that's supposed to run my CA reactor.. not an over priced worthless pump at all....

re-aquascaping is officially checked off the list.. well minus the new sand part =/.

i went with a much more open look, a look that is far less obtrusive and still leaves plenty of mounting options for corals (i think).

I still haven't been able to hook up my CA reactor as Skiptons didn't have a mag 2 cover in stock like i was hoping.. so i might just have to order the pump cover if i can't find one tomorrow....

My misc. RODI stuff will be here tomorrow.. nothing to exciting just a float valve/auto shut off combination, some DI resin, and a membrane flush kit.. but still something for me to do tomorrow.

This weekend i think i'm going to attack the skimmer/gate valve thing.

ok if the aquascaping is done. wher are the pics.

Glad to hear it's all coming along for you. Sounds like you'll be up and running soon. Pics?

yup... i'll take some pics =).

They probably wont be up until tomorrow though, i'm headed out for pretty much the whole day today...

this will be a rare glimpse into my tank, so quiet about the lack of corals... it will look good someday, i hope.. lol

ok, so i changed out my DI resin, installed a flush valve into my RO membrane, and i set up a float valve and auto shut off valve into my RO system so i can just keep a barrel constantly full.

None of this is all that exciting, but hey i still did something =).

so woke up this morning to find an "almost flood" i was literally seconds away from pumping my whole entire sump volume into the display tank..

luckily i somehow caught it just in time... the culprit was a tom aquatics aqualifter pump that is used in my HOB overflow... somehow siphon was lost and the pump was clogged and unable to regain the siphon.. i grabbed a new pump at skiptons tonight and the problem is fixed... although this is not going to be a long term solution as i don't want another one to fail (bound to happen i hear) and have me not be there to catch it.

Pushing the plans for a new tank with a real overflow up this list i suppose..

anyone ever use one of these overflows? www.glass-holes.com

they seem to be quite nice, not a big profile and according to customers are pretty darn silent and reliable as well. Only downside is i have to drill the hole.. but hey they are supply the diamond coated bit.. so what more can i ask for?

Oh, while i was at skiptons i also snatched up a yellow eyed kole tang... they had one in stock that really looked nice, and i've had my eye on one for a while.. =)

That seems like a great set up. If your comfortable drilling the tank stocked go for it!!!

If not, the lifereef overflows seem to be the best. I did a TON of research before I set mine up. I have looked for failure threads and haven't found one. The U tube design seems to be virtually foolproof.

Keep us posted

Well done, dude! Sounds great. LOL, you are committed to this though!

What do you teach? I teach HS math here on cape. Such a blast! I love it.

I have one of the Glass Holes overflow in our 20 high. Its nice that it doesn't take up much space. I can't speak for its "quiteness", its not terribly loud but I wouldn't call it quite. I havn't spent much time tweaking around but I am sure if a spend some time I could make it nice and silent.

What one did you buy Barry? Did you buy like one of the nano's, or was it like the standard 700gph one? Teeth, or no teeth?

so... i flipped the light on in my tank to find the Kole tang has numerous big white spots on his side... look to big to be ich, so i'm thinking he scraped himself up on the rocks or something trying to hide when i put him in.

Mostly on the bottom 1/3 of the fish's body.. hopefully he'll be ok..

I'll have to do another water change tonight and try to keep the tank water really clean..

Ha! I keep forgetting that this hobby transcends ages. That's so cool that you have the means to do all this stuff. It's so amazing.

hmm alright. I def. want mine to be as quiet as possible.. but you think that if you played with yours a bit more it would quiet down pretty easily?

I feel pretty confident that if I tweaked with it I could make it quiet. The main problem is it is gurgling and I have been to lazy/busy to play around with it.
