Who has a long vertical run to your sump?

Is the algae gone yet?

I'm doing a basement fish room in the new house, and I am now considering a second floor tank. :o

It's in my family room, over a garage with 2 steel beams, so even a big tank will be OK. I'm thinking like a 6' oceanic bowfront.....

What pump did/do you use? How expensive was it to run? Anything I should be thinking about? (besides the ARE YOU NUTS? question).

With the 9 foot ceilings on the first floor, plus 8 more in the basement and 5 or so to the return(s), I'm looking at a minimum of 23-24 feet of head pressure. I've got good access to space for wherever I need for plumbing.

Since I want to stay on my 1 pump/system plan, I think to drive the basement and a second floor tank...I'd be looking at a reeflo marlin to start.

Which sucks, because I run a reeflo tarpon now at 170 watts, and the pump draw will basically double. Also, I have a NIB reeflo barracuda, (spare) which won't do the head I need.

Please, my fellow reefers, help me out with your experiences, or - talk me out of it. :D

LOL! you are very funny! I can't beleive after your homecoming yesterday you are consdiering adding an additional set up, especially where you were only up at that hour cause you were finishing cleaning up after your turbos decoded it was time for a water change! Whats a little more water, salt, LR (hell, we all have the stuff hanging around anyway) and oh don't forget the local utiltiy company we gotta keep them in business right..and the the back pain from the water changes. Only another reefer would understand! But it sounds beautiful, a perfect room for a new set up!!:)

The most efficient pumps Ive found are Wilden Typhoon pumps http://www.axflow.com/en-gb/Group-Site-Management/Product--Services/Manufacturers/Typhoon1/ For your flow and head height requirements you would probably need the 1/3 hp model which will bring you in just under 250 watts. You can get the pumps from diversified pump in new hampshire www.diversifiedpump.com These are monster pumps, extremely well built and designed for crappy environments like salty fishrooms so it wont be inexpensive like the reeflos, which by the way I think are great as well and also use.

Flooding the basement wasnt enough to drive off your wife?:D JK

Holly Cow, Thats some serious pumps. What's the price on them? I run the reeflow hammerhead at about 16' of head but the Typhonns look to be better built.

well that just sucks....maybe it's that superheated 90 degree spaflex elbow in your system :D

I'm running Reeflo Blackfin 3600 for my sump in the basement and tank on the first floor. I calculated the cost via killawatt and it comes to about $24/mo.

Not sure, Ive only purchased a 2HP model for a huge multi tank system in a research wet lab and it cost around 2K, but that particular model was also variable speed which definitely adds to the price tag. For our smaller systems (9 tank racks) I stuck with the reeflo pumps, mostly barracudas to keep the price down, but now that I think of it I really should have at least priced out the typhoons because they are seriously heavy duty in comparison. I dont worry so much about the typhoon getting splashed or kicked like I do with the reeflos.

Looks nice Mark, that's the pentair that bought out rainbow some time ago if I remember correctly. I'll have to check it out later.
