140 gallon 4 sided starphire rimless build thread

What was going to the purpose of having a hole cut into the overflow? I'm not understanding why it was cut that way or why you would want a hole in the bottom of an overflow?

I didn't want this done, what I wanted was a notch cut in the bottom acrylic overflow so I would hide the wires and then run it down the bulkhead since I had an extra hole cut for my electrical wires for my tunzes pumps. But the guy Derek had me talk to got confused some how and cut threw both the acrylic cover and the glass overflow. So your question is exactly what I'm asking also.

Great Looking project! Inspirational. Keep the pics coming.

Aquascaping and live stocking of the DT notwithstanding, I'll be interested to observe how you complete the finish-work portion of the project.

I could see the slot maybe being a miscommunication over the phone/e-mail, but IMHO if I were paying that kind of money for a tank as beautiful and well thought out, as yours seems to be, I would be extremely unhappy with the quality of that silicone job. It looks rushed and very unprofessional.

That sucks... If its glass, i guess you could just get another piece of glass around 10mm thick? and silicone it on... but that sucks. Have you called Miracles about this?

I'm sorry but for that kind of money I would be **** ****

I think you should get on the phone, and tell them that this one isn't right, and you would like it replaced.

I'm unimpressed, based on those pictures, and while the glass looks beautiful, the siliconing could have been done with more care.

you're 100% right to be pissed off...I would be too.

I emailed Derek and he said that the plant is still shut down for holiday. He said in the email that he is driving with his family and he would open the pictures and look at them. He said he would make it right. I replied back by telling him not to worry about looking at it until he was done driving. So should I leave the tank alone? Do I fill it with sand and water? The whole overflow being cut sure makes things extremely difficult to work around. Lastly should I ask him to replace the tank or some money back and hiring someone to fix the mistakes some how. I really do not feel like waiting another 6 weeks for a tank to finish and to rent another U haul to pick it up. Can the silicone be fixed as well as the overflow?

if you fill it, you own it. I wouldn't put a drop of water in it until you have this resolved with Miracles. The waiting is the hardest part. I have been waiting for a new tank since June. It sucks.

I thought since I signed for it and picked it up I owned it but thanks for the heads up. Not a drop of water has touched it except wet paper towels to get finger prints off and some puppy dog hair. I hope that Miracles will do enough to make this right, I have no idea what would make this ok my girlfriend asked me what it would take and I'm so tired of waiting from preparing for this tank I need a mini vacation from all of this. What about the sides being about an 8th inch off is that normal?

I would be curious to know as well, did they give you a reason for the hole?

Also how are the vertical seams? Most looks to be areas that will be either covered, i.e along the bottom panel, or inside the overflow. Which may take some trimming but if what will be seen
looks goo I wouldn't have a problem. I am not saying you shouldn't call them and let them know how you feel. But from what I am seeing once the tank is up and running none of that will be an issue other than the hole at the bottom of the over flow.

Have you seen a Glass Cages tank? $800 more than a Glass Cages isn't saying much, it is a hit or miss company anyway.

I told them to cut a notch on the acrylic cover of the overflow so I could run 2 wires for my pumps down between the overflows. The pictures that I took are all vertical seems and can me seen. The overflow silicone job is messy yeah but won't really be seen at all but the outside vertical seems can be seen once you walk up to it. $800 more then glass cages its roughly 80% more money and I doubt this tank is 80% better then what I would have gotten. In the end I'm really new to the hobby and still in college. So I don't have just a bunch of money pouring in to make this a quick fix.

1/8th of an inch isn't THAT bad, and would be considered within tolerances....

So you are saying that you could get this tank from glass cages for $200?

I have sen many Glass Cages tanks and I take into consideration we are looking at a what 1/8" seam at the most most likely 1/16" under magnification and harsh lighting.

I would send it back due to the overflow and ask them to clean up the silicone and let them know what you expect it to look like upfront.

lol no no I paid $1800 for this tank and could have gotten this from glass cages for around $1000 I don't really care about the 8th inch or 16th thats not a biggy for me. The silicone job and the big hole in the overflow is whats killing me. So to clarify I did not pay 800 for this tank. I did tell them what I wanted up front when I said that I know that Miracles cost me but I want it done right so thats what I told Derek on the phone when I sent him the money.

You're miss reading me the seams we are looking at are that size and you actually paid around 45% more

The Glass Cages overflow alone would have sent you into a tizzy. You are unhappy that is understandable, but you would have felt the same with a glass cages tank for $1000

Glass cages would most likely tell you to pound sand, Miracles will most likely work with you and make sure you are happy in the end.

So give the guy a call and start the process

Bingo, 800.00 more will get you good customer service. Also, I highly doubt GC would create a custom overflow with notches or another personalized changes. When I used them it was a "take it or leave it" mentality. Im unsure if GC has changed but bevealed edges werent available.

that silicone work looks terrible to me,i would neither accept it or ever trust it to hold water for the long term.

Sorry to hear of your predicament

Gorgeous tank & Doggies....piss poor silicone job for sure...The notch you are talking about I think I get what you were looking for, good luck I'm sure they will do the right thing.
