Missing Yellow Tang.. HELP!

Hello everyone,
I purchased a yellow tang on Thursday and he seemed to be doing just fine in my tank. a little skittish but i figured that was normal for being in a new environment. Today i cant find him anywhere. I looked in the overflow and even around the tank to see if he jumped out, but hes nowhere to be found. Is there a chance my BTA could of gotten a hold of him? He seemed perfectly healthy but i assumed this is the only other thing that could of happened. Please let me know your thoughts.

My BTA got my yellow tang a few years back gobbled him right up and puked out the bones a day later. Look for bones on the sand bed . All it takes is one sting to paralize him then he will eat him. It is important to hand feed your anenome when you have other fish in the tank IMO anyway. My guess is thats what has happened sorry.....

Are you sure he didn't find a crevice in some rock that he's hiding in? I had a hippo tang that was VERY good at that..freaked me out until I figured it out.

IMO anything you get with that anenome in your tank could be a problem for the fish. You need to keep it fat and happy or it will get your fish regardless if its a yellow tang or a hippo tang. Hippo tangs are great at hiders but I dont think the yellow are as good. If you think he may still be in there feed the tank and he should come out.

Im so pissed.. Just fed the tank, no luck with him coming out of hiding. The BTA must of grabbed him. I dont know if i should even try again, feel like im just throwing away money lol

Unless the fish was sick or weak I do not see how a BTA could have grabbed him. A YT is a fast and strong swimmer even if he got stung he would have swam away albeit a wee bit unhappy. He is either hiding in somewhere in the rockwork or he died and your CUC has taken care of the rest. Give it a bit more time before you count him out. Good luck hope he pops up soon!

There was nothing wrong with my yt and he got grabbed and eaten by a BTA. It is possible for it to happen even if it isnt a reg thing.

If he died and you have a cleanup crew they would also make light work of him before light on.

I hope is is alright, but as mentioned before yellow tangs are not very good hiders.

One thing about this hobby is that sometimes things don't make it. I hope it wasn't to expensive! That is way I like to buy live stuff online because if it die's in that 2 week window, they will give you your money back.

That seems pretty unusual IME. Did you see the nem take the fish or spit out the bones? Not saying I think you are wrong, just wondering if you were actually able to witness it. If I had a fish go missing, then saw bones in a day or two I would think the fish just died and the clean up crew ate it.

Sadly, whatever the case, if you haven't seen the fish I suspect that it's quite likely that it has passed away one way or another

it usually requires a pic of the dead fish, even some stores that will refund require the body

A carpet nem is a totally different beast than a BTA, it's quite difficult to compare the two. Not only are they different in their potency of sting but the physical response from a carpet vs. a BTA is very different. I really wouldn't expect the same outcome of any fish having a run in with these 2 different types of nems.
