Koralia Evo 750 issue, replace with MP10 or MP40?

Just about had it with my Koralia Evo 750 pumps. Got several sets of bushings and pump fronts with rubber stops from Hydor but one just won't stop running backwards. I have them on alternating 4 minute wavemaker mode on my AC Jr. Hydor says they're suppose to work fine but they don't. Great pump but not on a wavemaker. Get Tunze or Ecotech for that.
Having said that, I may replace with a Ecotech Vortech MP10 or M40. I have a 24x24x24" 60 gallon cube. The MP40 with flow of 1000-3200ghp seems too much, especially the bottom number. With both Evo 750s running in my tank it is too much, especially for the LPS and zoas, that's why I have them alternating. The MP10 with flow of 200-1575 seems more reasonable but do I want to keep it spooled up at or near full speed 50% of the time in reef crest mode in relation to noise I know these can make?
Opinions please.

I had evos as well and went through a number of front guards also and came to the same conclusion and gave up with them on wave makers. I went to 2 mp 40s on my 125. The 10 will mostlikely be fine. The 40 would be nice if you ever went with a larger tank. I like lots of flow.

idk i keep hearing vortech pumps are suppose to be the best......should be anyways for the cray price......but i seem to hear that there are many problem with them.....either way i had an mp10 on a solana 34 gallon at full blast and it was just the right amount of flow.....so for a 60 gallon i would do mp20 or 40

on my 60g cube I have an MP10 and a Tunze 6045. It gets good flow and I like the randomness that the vortech creates. I would like to replace the 6045 with another mp10 but for now Im saving my money for lighting upgrade. I think the MP20 would be fine but you may have to turn it down alittle. I run the MP10 at full reefcrest and it seems just right for my corals.

First off, I have an MP10 and have never had an issue with noise. In most cases when there is noise, the dry side and wet side are not lined up correctly which is what causes the issue.

Second, an MP10 will be fine depending on your stock. It sounds as if you have a mixed reef? I have an LPS/Softy tank with a few SPS pieces on a 45g tank. The SPS are all great and I have the thing really dialed down.

I've read people having problems with both, new evo's spinning backwards and breaking front grill. and mp's bearings going and noise issues due to alignment being off. Either way I hope you work it out. Maybe you can try to call them and tell them you want a whole new unit?

On the Koralia Evos I have new fronts on the way. Replaced the bushings with upgraded ones several months ago. This is an ongoing issue that is NOT going to go away. Are they better than the first series of Koralias that wouldn't work on a wavemaker? Yes, but any pump that requires the impeller to hit a rubber stop if going the wrong dirrection and ricochet the right direction is going to have problems long term on a wavemaker. A DC motor, like in Tunze and Ecotech Vortech is the only way to go because it starts the same direction all the time. I'll clean up the two Evo 750s with vinegar and sell them to someone who won't run them on a wavemaker. They still are excellent pumps.

As far as the noise of the Vortech, I'm a service tech with a shop. The bearings for the dry side cost $5 a piece and changing them is easy every year or so.

How could you let the cat out of the bag that Bobby actually shops at Petco. Actually, my fire fish, green chromis' and yellow watchman goby came from there and they're over a year old and doing great. Being up in the Manchester area Petco is close by. Their Salem and Manchester store actually do reef stuff, just have to shop wisely. I buy inexpensive fish anyways, I'm more into the corals.
This MP10 is doing great. I'm so glad I didn't get the MP40. I have it on reef crest at 3/4 and it's blowing hard on my hammer and torch. But I have a 24x24x24" 60 gallon tank. If I had a 4' 75 gallon tank a MP40 on the end blowing across the 4' length of the tank would be ideal. But with the front glass only being 24" from the pump a MP40 with a slow speed number of 1000gph would be like an outboard motor in a barrel, wise choice on my part. Actually, some reefers from Manhatten Reefs (member their too) who have the CAD Lights 50 gallon 24x24x20", they gave me advice that they have their MP10s turned down because it was overkill it a 24"x24" tank.

Yeah, I'm not a big petco fan but I stop in at the Manchester store once and a while, there were (might still be) 2 guys that are on the NH reef club that work there, they actually did a pretty good job there setting up there salt side of things. I stop in the Salem store for dry good's very seldom. But would have no problem with buying from the Manchester store at all.

the guy i would go to is greg @ manchester petco. he always steers customers the right way. it is petco......, and he has to work within their limits, but he isnt selling carpet nems to people with 10g tanks. good guy.


good call on the mp10. i wouldn't go up to a mp40 until you have a 4ft tank. also selling the 10 would be easier than a 40 too.

Greg is a great guy but his hands are tied by the corporation. He has to use only products that Petco sells but their lines are expanding lately to more reef stuff. But he has no RODI filter, has to use Red Sea test kits and IO or Reef Crystals salts. He does have a passion for the fish and corals and does a great job with the limited resources he's provided with.

Actually sold the MP10 and got a MP40. Much better for a 60 gallon tank.
