Re-Scaping

I gotta re scape my tank and was wondering if it was necessary to remove fish during the work as im guessing I will have a cycle after removing all the rock and putting it back again. Anyone have any tips to make this easier on the livestock? This is my first time that I will be rearranging rocks in an established tank and do not want to kill my fish off. Thanks.

I had a small tank crash after a big re scape. i would just do a 10-15% water change after all the waste/stuff is kicked up to be safe.

How old is your tank? If you have a DSB then you might want to keep disturbing it to a minimum if you will be keeping the fish in the tank.

Ive had this one up about 5 months after upgrading, and that oother tank was setup maybe 6 months if that makes a difference. I have a ssb only about 1" or so. Yeah I am concerned about disturbing the bed and kicking up detrius. Maybe a large wc after the move and run some carbon for a few days to help it out.

i agree with tommy, but if you have sand you want to be careful imo...

I have done it many time.. hence my Tag line lol.. no matter what you are going to stir up the bed, when you pull the bottom rocks out lift them up real slow so you dont cause a vacume affect. I used to stir the tank up a little before the move, do a partial water change, save that water to use for things I needed out of my way, re scape, than finish the water change.
Good Luck.
