Really, really crappy discovery......

From the other incidents I've read over the last few + yrs of your mishaps this one definatly puts you way at the top of Murphys all time list ;).Hope it all works out for you Jay.

You just wrap the guitar string around the dowel and use that to hold at either end and then just slice away. I'm sure you could figure that out John:)
If you
know any one that works at an auto body shop you could get a piece of window seal cutting wire.Hundred times better and faster than a guitar string does not break or fray like guitar string.Sorry about your tank hope it all works out in your favor

That is why I call it "McBrides law"

I think they call that 'piling on', Mr. President :p :)

Wow and I thought I had a black cloud following me around.

an update..... a 'no' from the store when asked if anything can be done by him.

he kicked it to the Hagen rep, who doesn't seem to want to answer her phone about this.

contacted the manufacturer directly, sent the pictures. The guy I talked to seemed pretty cool, but he said had no authority to make any type of decision, and his boss was out.

I'm supposed to call back at noon central time tomorrow if I don't hear from him.......fingers crossed.

I'm cautiously optimistic, and I don't even know why....

That blows that the store wont help you out. I had a marineland tank crack after a year in use and one of the forum sponsor stores took it back, gave me a new one immediately and dealt with the hassle of getting the replacement tank to replace the one I took. All I had to do was bring the tank to them relatively clean. Customer for life there now.

the next 3 hours can't pass fast enough. I hope I get the right answer......

Good luck Jay, wishing the best outcome for you!!

ugh. no answer from them, and the decision maker is gone for the weekend. :(

I would let the company representative know that you are running this on an open forum on BRS. I would even go as far as to email him a link and invite him to join the club. It can only help your cause to let him know that his customer service is being monitored by a few hundred prospective customers.

so, more calls....the Hagen rep kicked it to her boss, and another call to the manufacturer led to them saying their position is that it was rough handling, and that it should be taken up with the shipper. :(

GLWT after how much time has passed.

Apparently there are a few avenues left...the Hagen rep's boss, and the owner, but it looks pretty grim at this point....and no one is going to be available until Monday now. More time wasted. it looks like my best offer from them might be a few dollars off another tank.

This sucks. I need to think this one over. I'm pretty much at the last straw.

The company I work for ships and recieves tons of equipment. Once it's been inspected and packaged it's then in the shipper hands. If it arrives damaged you must immediately put in a claim to the shipper. It is important that you open and check every package. Most companies won't do anything about stuff like this after one week past delivery date. At least that has been may experience. Sorry to hear about this Jay

the thing that sucks is...the silicone FILLS THE VOID left in the void INSIDE the tank. I'm having a hard time accepting that a shipper's rough handling (or mine) resulted in silicone adhering to and filling a void in glass. :(

<----- if this were a chip outside, I would claim no recourse. But it's INSIDE the box, and the damn sealant is stuck inside it. My avatar shows it pretty clearly.

It is BS as if you see it in person, they clearly fill a chunk of missing glass with silicon. Clearly a manufacturer error and not handling. I don;t think is has been explained clear enough. As that chip is behind the panel of glass, that end of the glass is not exposed, it is 100% impossible for them to claim they did not put it together with a chip in the glass.

I'd say if it's 100% manufacturers defect, then the chances of your CC company reversing the charges are 100%.

I agree with yitbos. The more public you make this the more they will have to worry about their reputation. I would even start a thread on Reef Central or another site that is countrywide so even more reefers are made aware. Then make sure the company representative knows you have the support of the reefing community. The internet is very powerful. If they can overthrow governments using Facebook certainly fellow reefers should be able to get you decent customer service.
