I was cleaning my Skimmer cup this morning when I noticed the feed hose(1”silicone) was again loose. I reach down to tighten it and the plastic hose clamp which is just a hair to big and the next size down is a hair to small. It slips down past the end of the hose. In hind sight I should have Stopped and turned the pump off. I didn’t. While fumbling about trying to left hand put the clamp back on.the hose came off and the jebao 8000 running at 80% pumped a geyser. So with the speed of a sloth and the early morning reflexes of Jerry Lewis,I unplugged the return pump and wondered for what seemed forever why there was water still gushing like a fire hose. Finally I unplugged the correct pump and ran for towels. I just orders titanium hose clamps from Titan marine. From now on this is all I’ll use.

In my experience, silicone hose is very poor for high pressure such as a return pump. It deformed in saltwater and slip off easily. I am using vinyl tibings.

I approve of your descriptions. Makes for a fun read. Probably less fun when there is a geyser in your house.

I also question my silicone tubing for my return on the temporary tank. I wound Teflon tape and jammed the tube in. Seems to be pretty tight but I do think about it.

The plastic ratchet clamps doesn't usually work well with the silicone tube unlike the vinyl or braided vinyl ones. They tend to slip if you tighten them too much on the silicone hose.

I have been using heavy duty zip ties instead for those.

Zip ties are a great idea. Zip ties and Velcro are must haves for reef keeping.

The titanium clamps were $7.50 each. Seems like a lot for hose clamps, but to avoid trouble I won’t cut that corner again. I may Also switch Out the hose. But I’ll probably wait for the next setup

Better than my dumbass self I was using hose clamps on my first tank!! Yeah metal hose clamps!!! Forget about all the rust going in my tank, that day it rusted threw and let go of my return line !! Boy was I dummie oh well live and learn.

I have been using heavy duty zip ties instead for those.

Zip tie is great for silicone tubing. Due to zip tie is narrow, it pinches the soft silicone in between barbs, which provide a more secure connection than clamps.

I considered zip ties and I think it’s a great idea there used on outboard fuel lines so they must be reliable. But double hose clamps are abys standard on in hull fuel lines and through hulls bellow the waterline on boats. Considering how much damage a failure would cause if I weren’t there. And the fact that I’m in an apartment with a print shop bellow me. The hose clamps seem the least I can do.
