10 gal NANO build thread

.... maby its time to start thinkin bout a sump... i think maby a higher water volume might help a little....

just baking soda yesterday to up my alk

i guess add the sump then, but i think you are going to have another cycle if you do due to the sump being a larger quantity of water than your current system

why if i just add fresh salt water the bacteria is in the rock.....

I think you would be fine but I dont see how a sump is going to help you...

Yes you gain a little more water volume which in turn makes it a little more stable but not enough to warrant the change IMO. Steps to fix the hurting corals (This is what I would do)

1. 25% Water change
2. Check all paramaters (the big 3 plus ph)
3. Run some Carbon

If things don't look better

4. 25% water change
5. check for stray voltage

I would re check your alk and try and keep it stable. If you are using IO salt you need to bump your mag big time before a water change. Let me know if I can help.

you can def help im currently using reef crystals.... my aunt makes up her water and i just took some of hers to help start the tank i will do a 25 percent change with fresh salt water and see what happens with the alk. i kno that reef crystals run alk around 8.0 to 8.2 and cal should be around 480 at that point.

Just do a couple of WC's and see what happens. is everything dead?

no but the acro with the blue polyups on the top is bleaching from the bottom up rapidly.... the shrooms have a whiteish tint over the tops of them and they are shrivled up and the birdsnests are doing well the green rics are fine... the kenya is fine the green tree was starting to turn black i pulled it out and checked my ammonia and it was reading zero... im sure i can find another frag of that somewhere. i just didnt want to run the risk of losing the tank to an ammonia spike just to try and save a leather....

Sheldon, bring over what you've got and put it in our tank until you get your parameters right. Ryan should be home or at least around sometime when you get out of school.

im probably just going to lose the mushrooms if i end up doing that... i need to do this in a hurry or im going to lose EVERYTHING...

yeah i am...

almost contimplating a break down and changing my topic for my project....

almost contimplating a break down and changing my topic for my project....

whoa, thats rough stuff. Change the project just dont break down the tank. Just slow down a bit and see whats going on.

well things got worse like i thought i was talking irrationally early im not going to do that im just in a panic right now i just need to chill and find out whats going on that acro may be at the point of no return right now but thats the olny one that looks like its dieing i need to get a better filter on there i think im not sure yet maby start a HOB refugium im not sure i really need guidance... and if i change the project whats the point of the tank...? it also dosnt help that my mom is not allowing me to spend a dime on this project and i think im going to have to take this matter into my own hands and do it anyway because i cant stand by while my corals die and do nothing about it... i need test kits badly and a RODI unit of my own and salt...

i need a test kit. i shouldnt have started keeping corals without one

How were you testing your parameters before? Did you check to see that the tank was stable enough to sustain corals before putting them in?

You're a bit far from me but I could probably make a trip down Friday afternoon/evening to help test your water and other issues.

thanks for the offer anthony. you dont need to come down jayman works about 3 mins from my house and he offered i tested with my aunts and my mentor has test kits... he lives bout 15 mins from me...

if anybody thinks it will help i will try and get you that hob refugium this week for you. it would add about 2 gallons of water volume for your system also.
