Hey everyone,

Haven't been around too much since June or so but since then I have been very busy. My 90 is still up and running but is too large for my apartment so I decided to start a nice little nano tank to give me my "reef addict fix".

I'm going to try a dark cycle, heard great things about this but have yet to try it. The tank started cycling yesterday, 11/12/11, so stay tuned for updates!

Got it at skiptons, I have a simmer I'll be adding in after the cycle and am currently looking into building some sort of nice HOB mangrove fuge

First update-

Parameters have leveled out, light is up and running as of today, Rapid LED par 38 bulb. Certainly have noticed a lot more sponge growth than any other tank I've cycled before, probably due to there being no lighting for the past month which is great. I have noticed a large amount of worms burrowing along the glass and am starting to notice little pods everywhere. I also added a porcelain crab two days ago, just to have something in there since the parameters were balanced, so far he has stayed in a little cave and the most I really see of him is when he sticks his maxillipeds feeding.

Nice, those little nanos can really be a blast. And you should certainly be able to keep SPS anywhere with that PAR38 :)

ended up getting an arm for the bulb, looks much sleeker. I kept the bulb off until yesterday to give the dark cycle a little longer and since I had done my second water change the day before I felt it was alright to add one green clown goby and two small chalice frags (I'll get pictures on Monday/Tuesday)

Very nice!

what are you going to be doing for ato?
nano/pico tanks are rough with out them...

I've yet to set one up. This tank is still very much a work in progress, but a HOB sump/fuge and ATO system are in development. I am with the tank most of the time, so constantly topping it off is not a problem.

Had a little...mishap shall we say last Thursday/Friday. Long story short and some words of advice, reef tanks do not like corona or limes , who would have thought?

This piece of coral survived, un-ID'd chalice, but the other three did not. My green clown goby was not a happy camper but survived and my crab is a goner. I did 50% water change on Thursday when I noticed this indecent, 25% the next day at noon and Saturday at noon. I had a skimmer running this whole time and hey, everything was in check Sunday morning so I picked up this little guy, 2 nassarius and 2 astrea snails. Everyone is flourishing and the tank has never looked so crisp and clear. I think it is finally time to start really stocking this thing with corals.

Update from the weekend-

Got my first SPS in the tank with no weekend incidents and they are absolutely flourishing.

Bali Green Slimer, you can see one of the initial casualties in the background, I decided not to remove it.

I'm currently looking for the right Zoanthid to put on the rock near my barnacle blenny, gotta have the right colors and size, I don't care for names and all that, just looks and what what will complement the other corals/fish and inverts. I am also going to start building a HOB fuge for a little more aeration/surface area and so I can put my skimmer in the tank without it taking away from the display.

Little bit of a time lapse since my last update...Since then I've had someone fail to remember to come take care of my tank for a weekend and lived right across the street from that huge transformer explosion in the back bay and had midterms that week so needless to say, the tank isn't in the best condition it has been in. As of now I have a closed brain, a Yellow Clown Goby, a Cryptic Wrasse, a purple cap, a green candy cane and a healing chalice that suffered throughout both terrible incidents my tank has had to face. I finally bit the bullet and bought my first ever ATO system and set that up this weekend so I can avoid anymore problems that involve topping off my system if I go away for a few days.

I also ended up moving the rock work around and removing a few pieces to give my tank more of a shelf-like appearance on one side for when I start buying SPS again. I also ended up moving my light a few inches higher as it was burning out everything I put in there. The barnacle blenny perished during my first incident, but this clown goby survived the power outage. My parameters are all in check but I do seem to have some sort of clear bacteria growing throughout the tank. It appeared during the blackout and has slowly been disappearing since power has been back. The tank is finally in a good place and the only other thing I am going to add equipment wise is a small auto feeder for pellets.

I figured I'd give a FTS and shot of the photogenic clown goby since this wrasse is impossible to get a picture of. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to the auction and get some more corals in this tank now that everything has settled itself out and I've finally taken the necessary precautions for blackouts and unexpected vacations -_-.

Just added a cc last night, 7 new frags in the tank. I'm going to do a few experiments or pay attention to a few things in particular. I won two purple death palys at the meeting yesterday and have one at the upper most point of my tank and one on the sand bed.

The frag on the top has 3 polyps

And the one on the bottom has one polyp

Im going to be monitoring my chemical levels and growth rates in this tank with these two frags which were both fragged at the meeting yesterday by Anthony. These are perfect specimens for experimenting with healing/growth in my tank.

I've also decided to try and attempt to breed yasha gobies in this tank. I'll be posting in the next few days for what my plans are.
