Sorry bout the bigtime delay..kinda forgot about it!!! I know you were one that was interested in this way back..

Just out of curiosity why did this rise from the dead 2 years later?

Kinda let it get buried under all the other things I was involved in..(plus my back was out for close to 8 months which limited me from sitting!!!) kinda hard to lay down & type!!!

That is one hella custom hood you have there. Good thing you own a shop can can do the metal work yourself. Damnnnnnn would that cost some $$$$$$$ to have built. Materials alone had to be some serious bucks.

Barry...that was built over 7 years ago..at the time I had over 1200.00 in just materials for the hood...(aluminum is probably twice as much in cost as it was back then...maybe even higher) that 1200.00 figure was not counting mh sockets, vho sockets,bulbs, ballasts reflective material...paint, mouldings..I think I paid close to 100.00 for the spools of wire wholesale.. (could probably do another 20 hoods with what is left)

I had built many enclosed canopies made from wood over the span of close to 15 years prior to starting this project...they were fine tuned over the years to be everything you could ever need in a reef canopy..problem I faced with all of them...salt creep & the elements of water so close to the wood....& the big one....weight!!! This aluminum canopy was designed to have a super accesable opening, be super light, water friendly & also attractive...

as far as $ to have it built...

I figured when I built it maybe would have cost close to 5 grand to have it built by someone...( that is if they were kind)
May sound like a large figure to many....but ya gotta think...how much can you spend on a high end hood complete that isn't custom? This unit is as custom as it gets....one of a kind...But not an ugly one of a kind that caters to just one person...

thanks for looking.... It took so much time to take pics while doing this project... I actually did it to post it on a newsletter series that never transpired...I actually have one insert on one of the old newsletters on the stand build & the making of the curved doors. (those out of mdf board)

I know it's been some time but what does the finished product look like? meaning what does it look like with the tank or reef set-up Im sure it looks amazing but a picture would be nice. I love the over all look on a bowfront I would like to build or buy a 500 gallon plus tank when I move into my own home. I was wonder for that matter whats the biggest in home salt water tank ever build ? just wonder im sure someon'se heard of one. p.s "what does highpower9979 mean by totm" ?
