2 part vs Kalk

Correct me if I am wrong but kalk acts as a buffer for maintaining two part levels. I use kalk in my top off water and dose two part separately with dosing pumps.

I ran kalk for years as part of my top off water... it works well, but it's pretty difficult to be precise and maintain all levels where you would want them without additional products. I switched over to two-part about 6 mos ago (from bulkreefsupply.com) and automated it with two peristaltic pumps. I will never go back. Put the two pumps on digital timers, dial in the timing over the first week or so, and then check in on parameters from time to time.

Kalk is cheaper to run, but less precise and if your auto top-off is run on a float switch and it gets stuck in the "on" position (which it WILL, eventually), you have trouble. Two-part is more expensive to set up the way I have it, but you don't have to worry about it after you get it established. FYIW, if you go with two-part and don't automate your system (e.g., daily dosing from a dosing cup), don't buy the liquid stuff if you have access to RODI water... buy the Alk and Ca powder separately and make your own, you get much more for your $.
