I would agree with Clam man, go with DE pendants so if you upgrade you can just get another.
"If I had to do it over again, I would go SE with luminarcs. Most PAR data shows that DE bulbs when shielded are comparible to SE bulbs of the same wattage that are not shielded running on the same ballasts."
I'd also agree with the above quote, but with a 12" wide tank the luminarcs would probably actually lose a lot of effiency because the reflectors are wider than the tank.
If it's just the MH without actinic supplement, and you like a blueish color, I would agree with those that have said 250W pheonix. IIRC the data on those bulbs shows a great PAR for a 14K bulb.
I would also agree with the need to carefully acclimate the tank to the MH intensity. The easiest and most logical approach IMO is to hang the lights extra high, then lower them little by little over a week or three. This will be way easier and less stressful than trying to rearrange the corals to acclimate.
Also, IME, zoa's are very adaptable in terms of light intensity. You don't want to shock them, but if they are acclimated properly they will thrive under intense light. (and contrary of common opinion, IME/IMO, a lot of leathers will thrive under intense light. I've kept sinularia and sarcophyton sp directly under 400W MH and they have absolutely thrived. Shrooms don't like that kind of light, but a lot of leathers love it assuming they are acclimated properly.)
