3/4 locline penductors - anyone see this before?

Jennifer

Moody and emotional slob
I just found these, i guess they can be called the Birdman locline mod.
Birdman Locline mod
I planned on using 3/4 locline on my returns for the 72 bow.
I will be doing this mod for sure and I expect good results from it.

Just wanted to share with you all.

Cheers !

cool, home made, too bad I just ordered an eductor for my tank last week

Interesting idea.....

I doubt it increases the flow like a penductor will. I have a 3/4" penductor on my 93 and it works wonders and I can't see how that will be able to compete.

Bummer, you could always return it.

From the feedback of people who have done this mod, it seams to work really good.

It certainly appears to increase the flow from your return pump. Not sure whether it is more or less than an actual penductor.

IMHO a totally worth while Mod.

I doubted it as well when I started reading the thread, but the more people who have tried it and noticed the improved flow coming from their return pumps has convinced me.

The other good thing about this mod is that it does not put as much back pressure on your pump. That way you do not have to upsize your pump to make up for the increase in pressure. I think this is an effective mod for pumps as small as a mag5 or similar.

Well it is made off the design of a penductor so I agree it is going to increase the flow, but I think side by side the Loc line mod VS Penductor it is going to be penductor hands down.

So why not buy a penductor, they are not to expensive. I think mine were $20 a piece. I know everybody has loc line laying around and it would be a free DIY way to increase flow. I just don't see the point of DIY if it won't reproduce the same results or better. Why settle for less:confused:?

I think for me it is worth while to not have to see that fairly large penductor.

You are right tho Barry the penductor is still prob going to be the better choice.

But as far as freebie mods go, this one is pretty high on my list.
With my 2 returns that is $40 that I do not have to spend. Better to save the money to get my new tunze pump at $343 whackamolies.

there is a debate on penductors and pump life as it squeezes flow to a rather small opening. i don't know the validity of it however. the mod would not put any stress on flow rated pumps

I just picked up two Pacific Coast Flow Accelerator (1") and I am a bit ticked off that they are a tad to loose with standard 1" lock line. I need to add a drop off silicone to get them to stay where I want them.....

It looks cool, but I'm quite skeptical that it will actually work as promised. (this wouldn't be the first time a "great new mod" on RC got tons of enthuastic pile ons that tried it and thought it worked great when in reality it didn't do much).

The main thing that makes me question it is the initial version didn't even have any restriction (so how exactly would the penductor effect work?). Later in the thread people do start playing around with adding restrictors, but it doesn't look like the design ever really got worked out right.

Whatever the case, it looks like you could make these things for a cost of less than a dollar, and it wouldn't take a lot of work. Heck, give it a try :)

I believe that is true, at least from what I have read. To compensate for the restriction of the penductor most up size their pumps to deal with the problem.

Thats a bummer, but you could permenantly glue one of the pieces of locline to it with out causing any issues.

I totally agree, but the fact that it is so cheep to do makes me certainly want to give it a go. It seemed worth while to at least mention the mod.

The worst that can happen is that it doesn't work. Scrap the pieces of locline that you cut, and it is like nothing ever happened.

Go for it, seeing as you will be first to do the mod here let us know how it goes.
Take note of before and after, be objective.

cheers !
