hello!

everyone,
I have a question for all you DIY guy, that have the experience and different project, i have done some project on my own before , but the time I need some help, ok,let get to the piont ,I have a 72 bow front glass tank, and i want to update the set , i mean the stand ,canopy and tank, but first ,I want know if I take out the botton and top frame of the tank, will tank won't break apart, i know the come frameless but i guess they use a different tipe of silicone ,
have any of you guys got any suggestions,
thanks

removing the frame on a tank that is meant to have a frame will decrease the structure and possibly cause a blowout.

tanks have frames for a reason the center brace keeps it from bowing. the rimless tanks are made from thicker glass that doesnt bow as much as the thinner framed tanks. but if you insist on trying it be sure to post pictures of what 72 gallons of water looks like on your floor.

Yup, as already said the trim serves a structural purpose in most tanks that have trim.

Also to add, the glass under the trim most likely doesn't have the edges polished so even if the tank didn't explode you would have a very sharp rim to cut yourself on.

well, no necessary, there is too many different size of frameless or rimless tank out there, I know big size of frameless bow front glass is hard too find, so as you all know, here some link of different of shape

2 out of the 3 tanks you listed are under 12 gallons, and the third is custom made, probably with thick glass

When the center brace on my 72 gallon bow front tank broke, the back of the tank bowed out about 1/4". Though it didn't break, I drained half the water as soon as I saw the bow in the back and replaced the tank.

You are kind of missing the point. You can build just about any tank rimless, but it has to be designed to be rimless (thicker glass).

Tanks with rims are not built as heavily as tanks built to be rimless. When a tank is designed and built with a rim, the rim adds strength/bracing and allows a lighter duty build for the rest of the tank (thinner glass).

In other words, you could add a rim to a rimless tank, but you cannot remove the rim on a rimmed tank.
