75 Tuesday! 80 Wednesday! Is your tank ready?

i run a chiller but because the apt gets hot (90 degrees sometimes 100) it doesn't help much. hopefully this year I'll hire someone to actually resolve the ac problem.

last year I had a tiny sump and no refugium. this year im running with maybe 125 more gallons of water. only time will tell if it stays cooler(last year I hit 86 degrees during one heatwave!). im topping off water like mad, about 4 gall a day, so there has to be some cooling evaporation going on.

Mine actually raised today 82.3 deg. Wow, I'll have to start the AC up on days warmer than today.

My 6 inch clip on fan kept my tank at a nice 78 degrees today and it is about 85 in the apartment. I let it blow into the canopy and I lift the cover a few inches to let the air flow through. The evap is a killer, I am topping off morning and night, almost 2 gal a day. In a 20L with a 20L sump that is pretty hefty.

Good news. With my new sump in the basement. (hastily finished at 8am this morning) my tank temp rose from 79.5-80.5 all day today. (as opposed to 80-85 yesterday )

Good news. With my new sump in the basement. (hastily finished at 8am this morning) my tank temp rose from 79.5-80.5 all day today. (as opposed to 80-85 yesterday )

This is the time of year that those with basement sumps reap the benefits. A rock steady 80.1 today. However, I would suggest, Nate, that you buy a couple BIG heaters when the go on sale this summer. You're gonna need them next winter. Brrrrrrrrr

Arg, tank hit 87 today ... house was at 77, too hot to be confortable but I was resisting turning on the central AC... it's on now, no sense in risking the tank.

Those with basement sumps that are keeping the temperature down... glass sumps or plexi?? Mine is plexi, and doesn't seem to be much help keeping down the temp.

I wasn't quite as lucky, house hit 80 and the tank was at 84. My Acros didn't seem to be to happy, polyps retracted most of the day. Time to put a fan on the sump as well.

Mine is a stock tank with insulation on top and a 75 gallon glass tank tied in. worke great, but it didn't get very hot here.

Yikes, my tank got into 84 degree yesterday. Room temp. was 80. I can't believe it's time to turn on the AC already.

The little 20 gal tank in my living room was up to 84 degrees.
The wrasses in there didn't seem to mind too much.
No corals are in there, so no losses.

My tank temp. flirted with 82-83. I shutdown the halides early, and took the cover off of my sump to allow the cool air in the basement to boost evaporation/vent off the heat.

It's way too early to crank up the chiller. Things were back to normal this morning, at 79 degrees.

Thanks Linda, I was wondering about how much heater I was going to need. I've got a 200w heater in the display, and a 250w in the basement sump. Do you have a guess for whether that's enough? I really have a hard time guessing.

Total volume's now about 120g. Basement stays about 45-50 in the wintertime.

I think it all depends on how well you insulate. can you build a box around it and put insulation around and on top of the tank? evaporative cooling is huge in dry, cold air.
