not sure there is name for ever acan
it looks like a nice piece, maybe post a pic when it opens?

Looks like a nice scan drowned in actinics, would be nice to see it under better light and when its opened up.

ok guys, been 24 hr and this acan still haven't open up yet.is this normal?yeah the pic was taken under led

hm ... usually my acans open up pretty fast ... even after being boxed for a while. Do you see any tentacles at all? If not, then try moving them down a little bit in some shade with low to medium flow. Also I've noticed that putting food in-front of their mouths sometimes helps ... (I use my hands, you may use whatever works best for you ... just make sure you don't spray in his mouth :-P

what gives?won't open when i have it under led but just move it over to t5 and already starting to open up.sorry about the crappy pic.u can see all the diff colors on this thing

Yup less light is better for acans. Mine are at the bottom of the tank under a rock ledge. Too much light and the colors will fade as well as them not opening up all the way.

And I agree with s_kelley... Looks like a rainbow acan. Nice frag. I have an ultra rainbow that needs to hurry up and grow. Definitely one of my favorite corals.

If it's in the same system that should pretty much answer your question. Most like lower light and low to med flow. Unless you plan on propagating this thing i wouldn't worry about the $$$ names people slap on these things. Btw beautiful lord you have there.

nope, different system.this is the first acan i have.thanks for the compliment

If it's different systems check the parameters and compare the two or it could still be too much light from the led.

Awesome Acan!! Acans Very to much in color for names...imo... But does this one have a cost lol??

The name of that Coral is Acanthastrea lordhowensis. No Coral has silly fancy designer names. They are all fake names just given to color morphs of Corals like Acans, Zoas, Acropora, etc. Really the best way to think of it is that it just a good way to keep track of different color morphs. Although with Corals, like Acans, that change color so easily names are not even worth it...But you can search forever online and try and see if it matches one with a name then go with it...otherwise think of your own cool designer name and go with that...

as far as opening up....your LED are irritating the Coral...most likely too much light for the Acan. Most of the Acans in the hobby are moderate light...they thrive under T5 IME...

Do you have any rock overhangs you can put the acan under, HuuTa? That might help shade it from the intensity of the LEDs
