ACK! Did I kell my new coral??

ARGH! Her's a dumb move on my part..bought a beautiful tonga branch today from AG(thanks B!) It's a tonga branch with yeelo polyps and what I believe is an encrusting star polyp??? maybe not?? Anyhow-branch is HUGE and packed very well(in my case too well)..was trying to lift the canopy to float the bag and as soon as I lifted the entire canopy high enough the bag ripped open and POOF instant acclimation:eek: haven't seen any polyp extension(ok a wee wee bit-if I stare) and the polyps are not open either...Any suggestions, advice, solutions or condolences???? It's sooo gorgeous-darn it!! Can I save it??:(

thanks,
tabittha

Most likely no issue at all. Yellow polyps and star polyps are amazingly hardy. I do not even acclimate any of my corals..just treat.

Give it a day, it will be fine:)

If it makes you feel better, my acclimation consists of toss in a 1L bowl of my tank water and treat w/ betadine for 30 min, then rinse and in the tank it goes.

Didn't ge to dip it....was going to get to that part...what type of flow/lighting is best for this coral?? Meant to ask BEFORE i left the store but was so excited!!

Just about anything. Be careful with yellow polyps and star polyps. They spread crazy fast and if you want to keep SPS, it could become an issue. Keep them on the sandbed is my advice.

...and start treating your corals! So many people in the club wind up finding red bugs and other nasties and never knew. Many predators are impossible to see so you really should treat.

Didn't have time to dip this one-as he leaped in the tank! Is it too late to dip?? and what efffect with polyps have on sps??
