Bought a 250 Watt Aquamedic Light w/ T5 Actinics. Upgrading from just a 150 Halide. How bad is this going to stress my corals? How high from the tank should i position this new light?

any other input apprecitated

acclimate the corals slowly with the new light and they'll be fine. as far as height, depends on the type of corals. Just take it slow.

i put the light 10 inches above the water surface. how many hrs do u think the light should be on so i dont toast anyone

matter of acclimating and type of corals. what type of corals? you cant blast them with 10 hours at 10 inches if they are used to something alot less.

A safe bet is to cut your photo period in half, and increase by 1/2 hour a day until you reach your desired time. If along the way something doesn’t look right skip the next increase. This is advice given to me by Jeremy at CRA.

sps primarily, with mixed softies.

i have a few types of caps, variety of acros, a pocillopora, and a few others.

normally with the 150 i ran the light for 12 hours. so with the 250 + t5s im going to run the light for 9 hours. this good or should i cut it down even more?

the light is also 10 inch above surface, whereas the old light was 8in
