advice on purchasing pH meter/refractometer

I actually don't have any experience with controllers, I'm just in the shopping process as I've just reccently started to grasp the value.

That RKL does look really nice for the $. $99 plus the cost of a PH probe and you'd have your PH monitor/controller, temp, 4 controllable outlets, and plenty of room to expand from there. That would be cheaper than a PH monitor and 4 ditital timers, but it would do a whole lot more.

Also IIRC there have been a couple of controllers being sold reccently used for cheap. (RayD maybe?)

I think i was told to control or monitor PH you need to get more then the probe. I think you need this as well

I think it is still cheap to control 4 plugs, monitor ph, and control temp it would cost about $220. (remember to control temp you would need to plug your heater into one of the 4 plugs). But if you have 2 heaters and 2 plugs for your lights this would work.

RK lite- $99
SL1- $66.95
Ph probe- $49.99

I would personal go with the RK Lite Plus for $280, you get everything above and 4 more outlets.

Sorry even if you can't spend more then $100 right now I would buy the RK lite. I think the temp controller is a lot more useful then the ph monitor, and it comes with 4 controlable outlets, t really is a good deal. If you still think you want the ph down the line you can get the upgrades.

I was originally thinking $100 each for the pH & refractometer. The controller def looks like the way to go, and the RK Lite+ at $280 looks like the best value. I'm OK with the $, it's going to protect all that I've invested so far. My concern was what brand to buy. Like I said, I'm new to the hobby, and don't know quality from junk, so I appreciate everyone's advice. I hate buying things twice.
