Afboundguy's breeding journey...

Haven't gotten as consistent of spawning since I put the orchid dottyback in the DT. She is definitely a she and the male indigo dottyback goes crazy as the lights go out trying to get her to breed. Couple that with the fact I changed around the timing of the display fuge's light and the apothecary tank's lights I think that has thrown them off.

The Wyze camera has been driving me nuts as well but tonight I was able to watch it and noticed they started to court each other much later than what I had been tracking so far as I think the light schedules played the biggest factor.

The Biota male was putting the moves on for several minutes before I captured the spawning. I tried to get a good screen shot of him flaunting the front dorsal fin!

Just a thought but there’s a product on BRS that mounts a wyze cam flush against the glass for better viewing if interested. Also acts as a frag rack on the inside.

I have thought of that and actually have a product from Wyze that sticks against the glass. My only concern is it won't capture the whole tank like it does now. While I know where they do the spawning I have been relying on watching the "foreplay" before as the best indicator of if they'll actually spawn that night and feel like I'd miss that if I wasn't getting the whole tank view.

I had thought of getting a second Wyze and having two go but we'll see.

The couple spawned, or at least looked like they spawned as they did the dance multiple times in 23 minutes last night.

I am back at work tonight and I work in the town I live in so I might try and come home and watch live and get a better video if I'm free at work!

It's interesting how much lighting changes affects breeding. I have changed the phyto and apothecary light a few times due to unplugging what I thought was a light with those push buttons being able to turn on/off with a timer as some of mine do and some don't.

That being said the mandarins haven't really spawned in two nights since I last changed the apothecary light that somehow was on until midnight!

Haven't checked the footage in a few days but had time this morning to check last night's video and I could tell by the way the male and female were interacting that the magic was going to happen! I haven't been feeding the tank as consistently but I did set up an automatic pellet feeder that feeds the tank 3 times a day in the back corner where the mandarins know to eat!

Was able to try and watch some fish breeding live tonight with no luck. My male Indigo was trying extremely hard to lure my really fat female Orchid into his nest tonight thought!

The male mandarin was just sitting in the corner with the female with his fin up and occasionally trying to tempt her. I eventually gave up just before 9 as I have to get up early for work...
