Can someone enlighten me on the AI SOL light? What is the light spectrum? Would it be enough for a 24" deep tank?

I had an ai sol white on one side of my 75g. The tank I believe is 24"tall. It covered very well. I had SPS and lps in the tank and they loved the light. The light was also about 14" above the tank.

AI Sol Blue/White WILL change most SPS colors (sometimes to something you don't want!) and some LPS, mainly Acans.

I had them over my tank for months before I realized they were missing a lot of Spectrum and needed to be supplemented. I was ok after I added 4 54W T5s to a couple of panels but besides that I would not trust any Blue/White LEDs unless you are only planning to grow softies and some types of LPS. Other than that, the lights just don't make the cut...

/ disagree... I've had them since 2012.

I think most people don't put on as many as they should for what the need and as a result they have to crank all the bulbs to 100 to get the light they need. If you only put 3 over a 180 tank it's not enough. You will have to crank them up and as a result you have less control over the spectral irradiance of the light. What I mean is you change the color by turning up the whites and down the blue.

Bump I know there are more people out there that have experience with these lights. Chime in please. I looking for leds for a 39 tall. That won't break the bank.

They worked on my 60 cube until I got the hydra for the extra color. I ran the sol blue on my first Biocube and it was great. Mounted it in the hood and couldn't go above 50% so yes you would be fine for that tank. Wouldn't use just one for anything wider than 24" though.

I had 2 over a 72 Bow and it changed most of my SPS and Acans. Once I supplemented with T5s all the colors came back.

It's a fact that Blue/White LEDs are missing allot of spectrum. Hence why lots of people eventually supplement...

I have 2 on a 65 gallon Tank. But I also run 4 t5 bulbs with it. For the supplementation that the ai sol blues lack. I run 1 ati coral plus. 1 ati purple plus. 2 ati blue plus.

Higorc you know better then to put anything like "it's a fact" in any opinions...especially in this hobby.

Somethings are bro. Are you telling me AI Sol Blue are "Full Spectrum" LEDs? Not trying to be rude, something's just "Are", I have been around the hobby long enough to know :)

You have had them long enough, don't you agree they lack spectrum and need to be supplemented? More even then newer LED fixtures? I am just stating what I went through with them and what I have read from other peoples experiences, that's all.

If they are used alone, you have to be ready to pick out the right corals to be kept under them or deal with what the lack of spectrum will do to other corals.

Sol blue is the first generation that AI produced. They are 5 year old technology. But they did it quite right to begin with. The white led is phosphor coated so that they generate a sort of wilder spectrum. But it is quite far from being a full spectrum light.
The newer hydra series led from AI is closer to a full spectrum as their spectrum extend to part of invisible range. Especially with near UV coverage.
To sump it up, the AI sol is still a good light and despite its age. Unless it is a lot cheaper than a Reefbreeders photon light, it may not be a very good value.

Maybe I should supplement them and see if it like it better... Remember I had crashed my tank before I put them on so everything I've had is how it looks to me...

No doubt things changed color for you. Stuff changed for me when I went from a Hamilton 12k bulb to the Phoenix 14k when I ran mh. But nothing is going to die under the lights...

Seriously maybe ill thing about adding a few t5 bulbs.. I'll start a new thread so I don't hijack this one anymore then I did

One last point though. I feel the lights are fine and will grow pretty much anything out there you may find coral may look different in your tank then where you got it from but that's always been that way even with different mh bulbs.
