Alkalinity Need Input

I've been in the hobby a long time and never had much difficulty maintaining stable levels I have a custom 70 gal and dose using three BRS 1.1 ml/min pumps controlled by my Apex a few SPS but mostly softies. My dosing rates are: Mg 22 ml/day (1550), Ca 40 ml/day (410), and Alk 35 ml/day (???), (XX) indicates approximate usual levels. My Alk always ran in the 9's until about last May and since then it keeps going down between water changes last night going down to 5.9 (Hanna checked with standard). The only thing I can think different is I started to use AcroPower 5ml every other day I even slowed on that but no change to decreasing Alk. Anyone have ideas should I increase Alk dosing but why all of a sudden?

I was having the same issue for a while I have tons of coriline that grows faster than algae in my tank. What I did was I brought the alk up to where I wanted it (9) over time I dosed 70ml a day which would only bring it up 1.0 Point a day. Once I got it to that mark I wanted it at I then tested everyday to see how much I needed to keep it at the 9 and I would dose(by hand). Now I have a jebao dosing pump that doses 44ml a day through out the day and to be on the safe side I test every other day or every three days. It it usually is dead on give or take a .01 or two

Assume you've done this...What's your new salt mix testing at? New test kit? Mg is up there relative to Ca I'd suspect low 8dkh to be in balance. Maybe AA dosing spurred some intake and growth but would not suspect a disproportionate Ca:Alk uptake.

Check you sandbed, heaters, and pumps for calcium build up. What I mean by sand bed is make sure it's not harden up.

why can't the answer be the simple fact that your acros (and everything else) started growing faster than before and therefore consumed more alk and ca? I know nothing about AcroPower other than what I just read. And the advertisements/reviews say it is supposed to increase growth/color etc.

For what its worth, I don't think 40 ml of CA and 35 ml of alk is a lot. I have 12 small frags of acros and I am dosing 190 ml of Randy's 2 part recipe B. I have had my doser for a couple months now and feel that I finally have it dialed in. To get it where you want, I would test every day at the same time of day (very important). After each test, I would use the calculator to find how much 2 part i need to get it to that exact point I want. I would manually dose that amount (regardless if it was 1-3 dkh). Then I would take that amount and add that to my doser settings. After 3-4 days you should have it dialed in to within 2-3ml. Honestly, it has taken me forever to dial it in and I feel I only got a handle on it once I started checking at the exact same time of day. If you break it down by the hour, my tank is consuming 7.9 ml per hour, so testing at 7 instead of 9 means I would be off by 15.8 ml. Crazy right...

As you know, CA and alk are consumed in almost equal parts. If you are experiencing differences, then I would strongly suspect that the ingredients to make the 2 part were not consistent (done that), hence the variation...or that your doser lost calibration (done that)...or the doser was sucking air because the tube wasn't down far enough (done that)...or the kalk topoff stopped working and disrupted input (done that).

Please post how you solved this problem when you figure it out...

PS - the length and content of my comment was more directed to those who may read this post later on. I don't presume to inform a guy who 10x the number of my posts a thing about CA or alk consumption that he doesn't already know.
